I'm now trying to understand the pros and cons of using TB with this setup. My meager understanding isTB generates a 'fill-in' frame just in case it is needed. So I guess the question is do I want the system constantly spending time doing this with FFTF Dynamic and a fairly steady FPS of close to 30 most of the time? What symptom usually suggests the need for TB -- stutters? My main interest is flying IFR procedures and the only add-on scenery I currently have is FTX Global. My lack of complex add-on scenery lightens the load considerably I'm sure. I do seek out lots of bad weather, however. 🙂 Al Edited May 7, 20197 yr by ark
May 7, 20197 yr Sorry, you are asking the wrong guy... I'm just happy that I found something that works for me.. As you know, I am flying with fps set to unlimited and vsync off.. Bert

There may be dozens of combinations, of course, but what is the logic behind setting Vsync on in this particular one? What is your monitor v. refresh, ark? Thanks.

Thanks. Good question, but don't have a good answer. My understanding is Vsync on helps to keep the FPS somewhat steady around the refresh rate or a division (in this case 1/2) of the refresh rate. Also, TB in P3D is forced off without Vsync. Vsync and TB on seems to produce smooth results most of the time in my case. However, the question is what would be best when the system is most stressed? May 8, 20197 yr If you turn off Vsync under the P3D Graphics settings, Triple Buffering is no longer available for selection -- why? Thx, Al

But you have already locked FPS internally, so the engine builds up at least one full frame ahead internally as far as I remember from the gurus' discussions on the subject.

I think I finally "got it".... when using Unlimited the default FFTF is 0.01 but FFTF Dynamic overrides it with other values depending on its settings? I guess I got confused because everybody was saying that with Unlimited the FFTF value is 0.01 and I wrongly assumed that with that setting it's always 0.01. May 8, 20197 yr Question, wouldn’t setting your monitor to 30hz be same as using an external limiter. I have my internal set to Unlimited but I hold 30 FPS. If you have a monitor that can be set to 30 hz, that is indeed the preferred route.. Many of us do not have that option.. Bert
May 8, 20197 yr I've been using the RTSS Scanline x/2 method of limiting my frame rates on my 60Hz monitor, with framerates set to unlimited in P3d, and using FFTF Dynamic set at .01 to 0.4 as altitude moves from 0 to 4,000 AGL. When set up in this fashion, my displayed frame rates in P3d center around 30 fps on average, but actually vary between about 23 to 43 fps. This is a bit more variation in fps than I experienced when I set my fps to 30 within P3d. Just asking, is this normal behavior? Thanks, Rich

I understand your point. I've also tried Unlimited target frame rate with Vsync and TB on, and the FPS jumps around a bit but averages close to the monitor refresh rate of 60 (as long as it can keep up), which is expected. If on the other hand, I turn Vsync off (and thus TB off) and set the frame rate in P3D to 30 the average is more consistent and close to 30. In both cases the flying looks smooth. So, it's really hard to know what is best. I probably need to do more testing when the system is more 'stressed'. Al Edited May 8, 20197 yr by ark
