Will UT still be necessary with FSX?

Recommended Posts

Guest nigel28

Basically, will FSX incorporate "real" traffic such as Ultimate Traffic or will we have to still use UT over the default FSX traffic?? Also, will the traffic density be better than fs9 with the default?? I remember KSFO having only 10 parking spaces with the default version.

I hope there is just a little improvement in AI traffic, not that its something that keeps me awake at night. My ATC slider is usually set on zero due to heavy negative FPS impact.AI traffic looks nice at and around airports but this is also the place where you dont want to have 6-10 FPS or stuttering when trying to land a plane.

If by "real" you mean real airlines, no, we will not have those in FSX.

I've heard about that before.Has something to do with the legal rights, right?

LOL!AS long as we have an "afcad" and "ttools" I thihk we'll be OK.TTOOLS as it exists today might even work, just give some extended functionality for the engine.

I'm hoping UT and all my traffic bgl's will work with FSX out of the box. If not, it's going to be very lonely for a while. :-( Cheers,Todd

We went through a transition when FS9 came out - initially thinking the traffic files would work - but after experimentation and checking - found differences which at least required a re-compile of the traffic files.Even today, we see differences in traffic file performance and reliability with TrafficTools falling short of TrafficDatabaseBuilder compiled files. If you want "improvements" with more traffic, real world airlines, real world schedules and real world traffic levels - of course you are going to need add-on AI.There will be a learning period - just like every version of FS released with AI traffic. But I'm personally confident that the end result will be worth the effort.Heck, much of the fun is finding out just what FS9 can do, and will be the same for FSX.I just hope the SDK's are available before major utilities are developed. AFCAD could certainly have been better with the BGLComp SDK.

My FS2002 traffic files work very well indeed in FS9, thank you very much.I've in fact just copied over my AI aircraft and traffic bgl and never looked at them again.

I assume you never used forced arrival times in your FS2002 traffic files, or you did not use Traffic Tools to compile them ?

I hope, and I'm sure a lot of people will agree, that FSX has updated the AI in such a way that we can program them for flight plans, or at least changed the dynamics of them so they're much more realistic. I'd like to see FS be able to handle larger amounts of traffic properly without the crazy go-arounds, and fly a better final. They come in too high or too low almost everywhere.
