PMDG 737NGX - ADF and COM Radios

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I found two issues with the PMDG 737NGX:

1- When asking the FO to set:
- the ADF1 frequency, or
- the stand by frequency, or
- to transfer/toggle frequencies,
the reply is OK, but in reality NO ACTION results.

2- Also, some COMM frequencies are not recognised by the FO: Example: Set COMM1 120.080  (LEAL  ATIS freq.).
Other similar values are accepted, even with 3 decimals (only 2 displayed).

Thank you for your support,
Giorgio

Sorry, couldn't replicate issue.

Let's say you want to set 118.7 on COM 1, use any of the see commands (and more variations are available). Words between parenthesis optional.

com  1, (frequency) one one eight decimal seven

com 1, (frequency) one eighteen seven

radio 1 (frequency) one one eight point seven

one eighteen seven on com 1

one one eight decimal seven on radio 1

To swap, use these

swap com one

swap radio one

transfer com one

swap com two

etc..

For standby freqs...

standby com 1, one eighteen seven

standby radio 1, (frequency) one one eight decimal seven

For ADF. Example, to set 342.0

adf 1, frequency three four two

adf 1, three forty two decimal zero

etc...

etc...

Only thing I noticed, he doesn't swap ADF freq

Thanks for your reply, tests and suggested commands. Very useful.
I made more tests on radios (1), audio panel (2, 3) and ADF (4):

1- Setting freqs on COM radios is correct, provided one requests 3-digit frequencies in .025 multiples. The display is rounded to the nearest 2nd digit. Basically old radio models. --> OK

2- The audio monitoring (lighted pushbuttons, audio panel) is OK for COM1; if COM 2 is commanded BOTH pushbuttons are selected (and FO states this). The only way to listen to COM2 ONLY is to select it (or deselect COM1) manually . That is: audio-wise, the two audio channels are turned ON together. --> Please FIX

3- The two audio channels, when ON, cannot be turned OFF/muted/silenced. The only command which seems to work is “mute/silence  BOTH  Com/VHF...”  (slashes separate variants of verbiage). Here again the two radios are ganged together, but cannot be turned off. ---> Please FIX

4- ADF: no standby entry can be commanded,  AND no transfer of freqs.

Thanks for addressing these issues when possible. Regards,
Giorgio

P.S: the FO behaviour on the NGX is becoming superb!

Hi Girogio.

In the end, we decided against that for the following reason.

While it would be easy to get it fixed for the PMDG 737, that specific code section (realistic VHF dialing) is shared by all supported aircraft.

Technically, it would mean checking it against the 42 complex supported aircraft to make sure it's not broken on the aircraft side.

As far as FSX/P3D flight simming goes, there are still many aircraft that have old style VHF units.

Therefore, for the odd frequency like 120.080, kindly ask you to handle it yourself.
