FSDT KMEM Memphis International scenery

Recommended Posts

Looking for comments and/or opinions on this one....

I would be using this primarily for freight ops, and considering it's the main Fedex hub in the USA it should be good for that.

Hello Scott,

I have KMEM and can recommend it, just not going with a STRONG recommendation.,  It seems to have a stronger FPS hit  than other FSDT airports. The quality is superb but  it doesn't like my Toposim mesh. Since I don't fly cargo I've only used it about 3 times in past few months.  If you want to use it for FEDEX (I assume your new QW 757) 😋 , I think you will really like it.

BTW, I use UT LIVE for AI traffic and I never see any cargo aircraft there just tons of commercial AI.  I assume this is an issue with UTL but have never investigated further.

Works good, lasts a long time, as we used to say in my USAF days.  😉

It's a bit heavy on performance, but not a problem with a fast 6-8 core PC in P3Dv4.  Was difficult wedging the B747-8F into the FedEx ramp...parking 811 with the tail hanging over the road is the best I could manage.  KSDF has the same problem...no spots natively big enough for the -8 (or really even the -400), and UPS actually flies those out of Louisville.

UTLive doesn not have UPS or FedEx schedules included.  You would have to add them manually, I know a schedule is around somewhere (may have to check their forums) and you can add it in to UTLive and make sure you have the correct AI aircraft.

Log into the UTLive Licensed Users page on the forums on Flight1 to see how to correctly add-in the package linked below for freight AI in UTL.

Thanks for all the comments gents.

Vcarlo, I use Toposim also but It's never affected performance on my system, but I do have some pretty good hardware, (i7 9700K @ 4.9 ghz and an RTX 2080Ti, and running P3D on a 1tb SSD).

Yes, I would probably fly the Fedex 757 there, but I also have the CLS DC-10F and the Skysim MD-11, so no shortage of appropriate Fedex cargo birds to use there...

I have the same issue with UTL and cargo traffic, but if you have AIG you'll get huge amounts of cargo AI at the typical cargo hubs worlwide, assuming you have the appropriate packages installed. For example, at KSDF (the UPS hub airport) I get massive cargo AI traffic with AIG, so many in fact, that it gets to be a bit too much at times.

Didn't mean to confuse you about Toposim.  When I first installed KMEM, the elevation issue was pretty bad. (the airport sat very high all the way around)  If I deactivate TOPOSIM mesh in scenery, the elevation was no problem.

In addition to what everyone else said, why don’t you download and install the scenery and try it in trial mode. Try flying an approach in the 10 minute trial and you can see how it performs and how it looks. Then you can either purchase or uninstall.

The other day I’ve used KMEM for the first time in... well, months! I had bought it during a sale, but since I lack freighters I never got to use it, until QW released their 757 for P3Dv4 and finally I had a freighter. I was rather shocked by how heavy it is on my computer. Looking at the terminals, even using FFTF Dynamic my FPS was still only about 22. To compare, Flightbeams’s KDEN, KSFO and KPHX all give me over 25FPS at all times. But, it does look very pretty! If it were less heavy on the FPS I’d probably recommend in a heartbeat. Given the performance being on the bad side of things, though, i do so less enthusiastically.

I had to modify a spot for the 77L (460) LOL never saw a 747 on that ramp but I'll take your word for it. Where do they usually hunker down?

I know Atlas will charter its airframes to FDX and see them all the time on the KLAS RJAA route, you got others?

Not sure where they park 'em IRL...they operate contract/charter birds during peak season and/or for outsize shipments, and other cargo lines transship thru the FedEx hub too.

Here's a B744 FedEx contract bird taxiing at KMEM:

I fly in and out of there a lot with MD-10's.  I would agree that it is a little heavier on the performance, but it's ok on my machine.  The scenery itself I think is great.  I have no issues using FSGlobal Ultimate mesh.

I have lots of Fedex AI there by adding it to UTLive using the download here at AVSIM.

Yeah N473MC is definitely an Atlas airframe, I haven't seen the refrigerator look on them before but the DoD loves this paint scheme.  I wonder where he parked it.

If you look at a google earth picture of KSDF you'll only see 747's at the lower southwest part of the airport, none attached to any of the gates
