New Build - Open Box CPU?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am working on piecing together a new build (9900k with a good MB).  One of the MB I am interested in is the EVGA Z390 Dark.  It is a pricey MB but looks like it is well put together.  EVGA presently has a bundle deal with a new EVGA Z390 Dark and an open box 9900K CPU for $850 (vs $1000 new).  I have never purchased an open box item and was interested in some of the experts experiences or opinions.  I would essentially be getting my first choice MB for the cost of my second choice MB (ASUS ROG Maximus XI Code @ $350) with the risk of an open box CPU which would still be under warrantee

Any insight is appreciated

Thanks

Brett

Thanks Westman!  Just my luck though....the bundle is no longer offered at EVGA.  Oh well, at least I know for the future 🙂

Open box CPUs could well be the result of someone discovering it wasn't a very good overclocker.  If you're hoping for a good shot at coming out ahead in the silicon lottery and getting a good chip, picking up a chip someone else has already rejected probably wouldn't be a high-probability-of-success way of doing it.

HaHa, it could well  be that or Bulk "Tray" or the open Box can be  binned, 😉 it depends were you buy it

This was from EVGA.  They were CPUs that they used to test out their MBs not ones that had been returned
