Pixels per square metre

Recommended Posts

Hi all,I don't know if this has been discussed but - for photographic scenery the ideal focal point is at 19997 feet to get the correct number of pixels to the metre. Will this be lowered at all to give us the chance of higher definition photoscenery?cheers,Chris

I think I remember hearing that they were looking into possibly doubling the resolution of the generic ground textures. But I don't think anything definitive has been announced or how that might relate to photo scenery.Matt

Just look at the screenshots, you can tell that the default terrain resolution has been improved. Where in FS2004, even with addons like BEV and Ground Environment, you will only see blurry grey lines for roads, now the resolution is good enough to see the yellow dividing lines in roads, and cars in driveways etc. I'm pretty sure the default texture resolution limit has been increased from 256X256 pixels (about 4.8 meters per pixel) to 1024x1024 (around 1.2 meters per pixel). This should make for some cool low level flying, but I don't know how hard it will be on frame rates... Has anyone seen the new VOZ PRO website? It looks like Koorby has help from the FS team designing the new textures for FSX... and they seem to confirm that the new ground resolution will have 1024x 1024 pixel textures. Check it out: http://www.orbxsystems.com/

Yeah that's Jason's shot - and I clearly attribute the image copyright to ACES - but it's a great example of how much more detail 1024 will provide. And no, I have no inside info from MS - I am just as much in the dark as everyone else, but looking forward to the FSX release :)
