Before I uninstall and wreck more.....

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

For most of the time I have no issues at all, but yesterday I installed UTlive (again and not sure why and not sure if this caused the problems), but I am unable to run the SIM.

Actually, I installed, made one flight, closed the SIM and few HRS latter decided to make another one, chose NGX again and APT and I got just black screen....forever, not even loading scenery, objects and regular stuff. Since I installed utLive few hrs earlier  I decided to remove and try again thinking that might be a culprit, but same thing happened. In PAO I could see SimObject (under packages)  in RED(?!) but I am not able to delete the from there and there is no folder FlightOne nowhere to be found. I assume, once in red that is not active, but I should be able delete it. I am able to use stock plane, like Mooney and to fly, but not payware (can't try FSL because of compatibility with 4.5, so I am not able to try and see if the problem is only with payware AC) . I don't think it is the issue with PMDG (maybe), rather some other screw up with SimObjects folder, since I can see that utLive created some Airplanes. SimObject in main folder look "normal" to me, I can't see anything unusual. So far  I removed .cfg, repaired client only. Not sure what else to do. Also, once I ran Mooney, I am getting REX mini UI, that my EF is not registered in one line and other to contact support ?! Not sure why would I be getting any mini UI when I haven't even started EF (🤔). So somewhere is a mix up and I need advice where to start.

Would reverting back to 4.4 help? Would updating content and scenery to 4.5 help? Reinstalling everything from PMDG?

Thanks

Did you use PAO's backup feature to save the configuration when it was working?  If so, PAO will do a one-click restore to a working configuration.  That feature has saved my bacon maybe a half-dozen times now, usually when P3D borks the config file(s) as part of a bad shutdown.

If you don't have such a backup, once you get things running again, I highly recommend you use that feature after any change to your config (e.g. addition of add-on scenery).  It does an easy one-click backup of the most important config data (e.g. Prepar3d.cfg, terrain.cfg, scenery.cfg, add-ons.xml etc etc)...and restoring is just as easy.

P3D can be maddenly unforgiving when its config data gets corrupted.  A repair install might work, or possibly deleting the generated files as described in LM's forums.

I have all the addon's in use that you mentioned (UTL, EF, NGX, ...) and have no issues with neither 4.5.11 nor 4.5.12.

A walktrough the things I did in the last 2 weeks for testing porposes:

- clean install from 4.4 to 4.5.11

- reverted client to 4.4

- updated again client to 4.5.11

- uninstalled 4.5.11 completely

- reinstalled 4.5.12 completely which is the current status of my sim

Now the thing: after my first install of 4.5 I did all those iterim steps without disabling any of the addons and it worked always (just deleted the .cfg and shaders).

Well....I haven't...so lesson to learn in the future😫. Also we often underestimate some tools...and PAO is such a powerful thing...but live and learn (and die stupid).

Once I fix this I will definitely use that feature which BTW, I discovered yesterday (dumb me). Now not sure where to start.

I will revert to 4.4 and see if they will yield any positive result....As I first step, but not sure where that will lead me, hopefully not in to more trouble...

That only means that the package has been deactivated, for example by unchecking the package in P3D, in Options->Add-ons.

UTL is a little bit tricky to get out of the sim again, because it creates duplicate references to its' own stuff. First you need to look for the add-on.xml from UTL in "Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\utLive" - and delete (or rename) it. Then, the UTL app places an additional reference in C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\simobjects.cfg, which you will have to remove manually - when checking this file, make sure that it is still intact. I don't think that it is still using the exe.xml (one or both), but it wouldn't hurt to check. And simply running the UTL application will put everything back the way that it was.

What did you do re. the P4AO? Are you using the latest version? Please note that addon discovery in P3D 4.4 was broken, and reverting back and forth between 4.4 and 4.5 could be fatal.

Best regards

Thanks Oliver as always.... Not sure if I am using latest version to be honest, I will check once at home. I see this in  addon for packages....and in red as I mentioned. I will, however, do as you suggested in places where you told me. I will stay away from reverting for now and see what would happen.

I am only suspecting that the problem is with SimObject since utLive created bunch of their AC, but I am not sure why no PMDG works? That bugs me. If something is "broken" under SimObjects, how come I have stock airplane....

Thank you again

Hopefully it is just an issue with your config files. Before you do anything drastic, create a backup of your config files with P4AO and send the resulting ZIP to me. Address is on the last page of the P4AO manual. I can take a quick look, check if anything obvious is out of place.

Best regards

This didn't work unfortunately...Once I go to vehicle selection and choose my 738 NGX and click ok, I get it all normal and I see it. All good..than I choose default apt click ok, box with AC turns white and than Ijust get the black screen....nothing and dead, not even loading....when I choose mooney it gets to loaded and I am fine. So somewhere is screw up....and not sure where to even start...Why all PMDG products I am not sure what possible I could do to screw it up so badly...Could fly GA, but I am not that kind of guy...LOL.

BTW, I email you requested ZIP, prior to removing ut files.

P.S. I just realized that I have one more payware AC QW789...Loading that one is OK ?! So all roads are leading to PMDG (why, I have no clue), it must be something somewhere with that particular add-on, also every time now when I start the Sim on flash screen it shows "building scenery...." like I installed something. And other odd thing is REX message in the right corner of the pic attached.

What happen here I have no idea....

if  your  running  ef   and  trying  to load  pmdg   planes  than  the  screen  will remain  blank,  you   need  to  switch off the auto log   in your   ef  settings  than    pmdg plane  will load.  Known issue   will be  fixed  in the  next  ef  update  I believe

Peter! You are right!...but I haven't changed anything from very first day since I have EF! Everything was good and no issues... I never touched anything in EF settings. Now all works, but I have EF running, this issue was happening when I wanted to test something but I didn't bother starting EF, thought not necessary, but I guess I was wrong. And I thought I read all forums about EF...so I missed the class....

Basically if you have EF and choose not to run it PMDG "won't fly" either...

Thank you very much Peter.
