Switching Orthos on/off During Flight?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Sorry if this was asked before, but I'm still new to X-Plane, moving from almost 3 years in P3D.  If I want to deactivate orthos in flight, for example if I'm flying from day to night and want to see the full city lights as I land, can I just disable them in the .ini and refresh the scenery in X-plane?  I'm wondering if it's possible to avoid a full restart.

Thanks,

John

It's not possible, no. However, there is no reason why you shouldn't get all city lights at night when using orthos. Are your Autogen overlays in place and working? They hold all the lights. At night, there should be no visible difference compared to standard scenery. I understand you come from P3D where of course these things don't really work that well, but if you install orthos correctly in X-Plane, this shouldn't be an issue.

For perfect results, make sure to install the extended night lights:

Thanks for the head's up- for some reason I thought that only the street lights would show up instead of the city textures if I was using orthos- I have overlays and extended night lights, but they looked terrible over orthos until I found the Rendering Options plugin- wow things look awesome now.
