What do you think about this 2 builds? Wich one and why?

Hello Simmers,

I am planning a new build with limited budget around 1600€....

Wich you do you choose and why?

All new build from my usual store:

• INTELCORE i5 9600K
• NOCTUA NHD15 S 140MM 
• MSI Z390 TOMAHAWK 
• 4X CORSAIR VENGENACE LPX 8GB 3000MHZ DDR4 
• CRUCIAL BX500 240GB 
• MSI RTX2070 ARMOR 8GB 
• COOLERMASTER MWE 650W 80+ GOLD FULL MODULAR
• COOLER MASTER MASTERCASE H500 RGB 
• AOC 3279VWFD8

TOTAL COST: 1670€

 

Now the build with 2nd hand produtcs and some new:

INTEL I5 9600K (NEW)

ASUS TUF Z390-PRO GAMING (NEW)

Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400 PC4-19200 32GB 2x16GB (NEW)

Asus GeForce GTX 1080TI STRIX O11G (2ND HAND)

Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750W Full Modular (2ND HAND)

Phanteks P400S Black (2ND HAND)

SSD Blueray M7B 240GB 563/511MBPS sata3 3D NAND TLC (2ND HAND)

NOCTUA NH-D15S (NEW)

AOC Q3279VWF8 (NEW)

NOTE: I have an SSD 500GB right now that i will use it. TOTAL COST: 1495€ Around 175€ less the 2nd hand build. I made this build almost because the GPU. Another chance is to use the all new build and buy only the used GPU and i will have a total cost of 1586€. Wich one do you choose?  Is the GTX1080TI a little bit old or can we say that is "perfect" to our sim (Xplane and P3D)? The RTX2070 being a new card in the market do a job better? Another question. The AOC monitor is a 32" 2560x1440, i would love to use a triple monitor but that will blow the budget. The only option is 3 ASUS VZ249HE (1920x1080 each) and it will cost me in all of the 3 builds something around 150€ more, but a resolution of 5760x1080.  Worth this extra money? Double monitor is a little bit stupid or we have many simmer using this type of "setup"? Hope you can help me. Best regards to you all...   Ricardo

I'd keep the GTX 1080 Ti - that is an awesome card!  The RTX's are too overpriced imo!

Although if you must have your triple monitor or 4k then I might try for a RTX 2080 (Ti if able to run all those screens)

Unless you want the ability to use ray tracing in another game, the 1080ti is definitely better than the 2070. Personally, I would wait for the new AMD processors to hit the streets in July before making any decisions. If they live up to the hype (which hasn't generally been the case for gaming in the past) then they could be a very attractive and affordable alternative.

I'd also go for faster RAM. It won't make a huge difference but it will help. Additionally, unless the 2nd hand PSU is fairly new, I'd prefer to have a new unit. The PSU is one of the most overlooked components in a new build, in my opinion.

You definitely need more storage. If you can't afford a bigger SSD (absolute minimum of 500GB) then I'd add a 2TB HDD. I'd probably add it anyway, even with a bigger SSD.

I believe you will typically have better luck getting higher ram speed to work with fewer sticks (i.e. if you are wanting 32GB then it is better to go with 2x16 as opposed to 4x8

Not sure , the 16gb stick is dual rank the 8gb is single rank Samsung B-die is 1gb chip , for me its more tricky to get dual rank faster then the single rank have problems to run 2x16 faster then 3800 c18 with 4x8 no problem to run 4133 c16, its well known that the dualrank sticks is tricky and the new z390 have no problem with 4 sticks it was another ballgame with z170-Z270 and older chipset

I was going to say, I recommend the one with the two ram sticks, BUT I'll take your word for it that this is ok now with the Z390 Westman.  ha ha.

You may want to look at the QVL for the sticks you propose, anyway, to help you with your decision.

I would lean toward the 2 stick, 1080ti, Asus TUF setup.
