Yea, I remember when the Flight trailer was released I was excited back then too.  Not this time.   Fool me once...

Take this what you will but I do have a buddy that works at Microsoft that works at Xbox Game Studios in a support capacity and he said the project has been in the works over 6 years. The project started as a tech demo for Bing Maps and the ortho data they have and it evolved from there. Someone got impressed with it and kept it going to eventually become the product it is now. Rather interesting if this is the case

Nope, only those with a current IFR rating. 🤣

You need a TRON rating for that type of cloud flying.

Try to stay positive.

One thing everybody should be remembering is what a wildly different company Microsoft is right now (in a very good way) versus just five and certainly 10 years ago

I'm still curious on the claims that Microsoft has been working with the community?

My theory at this point is that in some way MS and LM have always had an agreement to work together and at some point bring the Flight Sim world to this point. It could be that Prepar3d Version 5.0 will be compatible with the basic coding that has been developed for this new MS product. Best of both worlds. MS take care of the younger gaming types and LM takes care of those of us so called "simmers" with a product that goes much deeper. Just a theory.

Since LM are using MS ESP (now highly modified) from MS FSX SP2 one would think MS would provide LM with an ESP option.  But, it certainly raises some questions about why Microsoft sold the entertainment rights to Dovetail while they were working on this product in secret ... I realize it's just business, but that seems harsh ... hopefully they picked up some of the Dovetail engineers to help work on this new MS project.

Depends how long they've been developing this sim. It certainly would seem harsh on Dovetail if they sold their old code to them knowing full-well they are working on a brand new engine. One of the concerns regarding LM is that perhaps Microsoft so far have been turning a blind-eye to P3D's popularity as a replacement for FSX (under a more restrictive license) and the worry is that since they'll essentially be competing, are they going to start throwing their weight over this.

As for third-parties and community members who have been apparently working on this, I also have my doubts on who. The only ones I can think of are possibly Aerosoft who have hinted at secret projects in the past, but many others seem completely surprised by this.

This would be marvelous, if indeed this was true...

So you can't even muster a bit of excitement for the platform that is the entire reason for where flight simming is today, because a single entry, that wasn't even an entry into the mainline series had you disappointed? I'd probably give up simming if that's all it took to kill any sort of joy for our hobby and its future.

It looked amazing which makes sense.. Cuz GPU now are definitely beyond games requirements..

For example theres GTA V videos with lots of tweaks looking almost the same and that's a game from 2013.. Now on PS4 or Xbox there are driving games with the same quality of the MSFlight trailer..  And we are talking about consoles hardware imagine in a PC..

I'm pretty sure this is a new game.. Which means that nothing we now and have for older versions like MSFX will be compatible..

And for the last its says simulator in the title, the last sim didn't say it.. It was just flight..

The only 2 concerns for me by now are, in order to have the realism to a whole new level you have to be using VR and if this game it's going to be full integrated in VR then will be amazing, with 5.1 o 7.1 audio output..

And second the massive hardware will need so let's start saving cuz assuming latests GPU are 1500USD this will be no cheap in anyway.. And I believe Intel is going to release new GPU's..

Now every info at the game will be connected to a server..  For example the WX or the cities like Google Maps 3D.. So again we may be required to update the internet connection..

Let's see how this going..

I heard that Bill Gates' maid thru out his last boxed copy of FSX and when he upgraded to ORBX Global Base, Vector, all the open LC and Trees, he had to upgrade his hardware and had no sim left to install, so he tried to hide the pro ver of P3D from his wife, she denied him.  Therefore, he contacted his friends in low places at MS to make him a new sim.  This is really Bill's new sim we can only speculate about.  The end

Hmm, one thing that could *seriously* ruin this as an up-and-coming platform is how they distribute it. They are offering it under their Game Pass, which means it'll be on their Windows Store -- But will it be exclusive to the store like many of their other games, or shift to Steam like they've been talking about? Games distributed through the Windows Store are under lock and key, seriously encrypted and it'll be difficult to mess around with its files. Then everything has to be purely through an SDK, if they're even gonna be offering one of those.

just read a News the other day, that Windows store will in future support normal programs too, not only the word not allowed app format

Indeed, the silence from PMDG is deafening.

Of course now that the cats out of the bag, they will be compelled to either confirm or deny any involvement in this as will Aerosoft etc.

Fool you once? We were hardly 'fooled' by Flight, and it was and still is free of charge, so it's not like you were jibbed out of anything really.

If the new MS Flight is really serious about pushing flight simulation forward it needs to (and I think it is clear from the video that it will) BREAK compatibility with ALL exiting addons.

No more ESP/old-FS issues...please! Give us some new problems to have fun with! 🙂

I am very much hopeful that MSFS *will* have an SDK and *will* allow integration of 3rd. party add-ons on PC, but this will take time!

The good news is that we already have P3D and XP11 and may keep using those sims indefinitely while the add-on ecosystem matures on the new MSFS.
