Pressing buttons and clicking switches

Recommended Posts

What are the different methods people are using to interact with buttons, switches, dials, etc. in VR cockpits?  I started PMDG's 777 with an Occulus Rift S and it is very good, blew me away actually, and now I'm looking for a way to press the buttons and click the switches.

P3D native Vr does not allows this except through Flyindide.

Aerofly FS2, DCS and X-Plane however do have this option natively.

After a bit of playing around I've found that P3D does natively support interaction with the VR cockpit. In the VR menu enabling EnableEyeTracking makes a spherical white cursor appear, it can be controlled with a mix of head movement and mouse movement.  The shperical cursor becomes opaque when it hovers over an item that can be pressed or moved, in the PMDG 777 cockpit I was able to use left & right buttongs as well as the mouse wheel.

I was actually talking about VR hands. The method that you're talking about exists, but I consider it too clumsy (and neck straining!) for practical use.

In P3D I find that mouse cursor works just as well in VR as in 2D. Not even sure I would want to use touch controllers if they were supported. Maybe if there were actually VR gloves, but continuously switching between HOTAS and touch seems to be a hassle, more so than switching with a mouse. I don'r much like the idea of using touch controllers to grab a yoke that doesn't actually exist.

But hey, I'll try it the minute it becomes supported. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Hi Andre,

What method are you following to create a mouse cursor in VR mode in P3D?

I'm not sure what you mean. The mouse cursor is just there. No need to create anything

Has anyone invested in Captoglove. A wireless  wearable hand machine interface for video games, virtual reality and smart devices that transforms intuitive human hand movements into digital outputs or control commands.    Captoglove.com if interested

curious for feedback

Agree. I need to feel the "touch" with my real yoke and throttle, and for me switching all the time from the Rift controllers for pushing buttons to the real yoke is a hassle. I tried in XP to use only the VR controllers but no, when I have to pull the yoke it doesn´t feel right. So I just use the mouse and the real yoke in VR.

The only way that I can be convinced is with VR gloves so you can press  all the buttons and use the real yoke without switching controllers.

Cheers

Carlos

Absolutely, works really well, I find it even better in VR than in 2D.

Never used any touch controller since flying in VR.
