Texture Resolution [OPTIONS>WORLD] ?

Recommended Posts

Is there a relationship between the Texture Resolution [OPTIONS>WORLD] and Texture Resolution [OPTIONS>DISPLAY] in terms of the visuals represented in sim or do they influence separate elements of the virtual world?

Texture Resolution [OPTIONS>DISPLAY] "image and texture quality" sets the maximum size of texture sheets the simulator will load, this would affect clouds, aircraft, buildings. Typical options will be 512x512, 1024x1024, 2048x2048 and 4096x409

Texture Resolution [OPTIONS>WORLD]  "terrain" does exactly what it does on the sim, it sets the maximum texture quality for the terrain, and also for runways, taxiways, aprons, roads etc. This will be in cm per pixel, and the less cm per pixel the sharper those items will look. I have mine set to 15 cm per pixel. which means each metre on the ground in the sim can be made of up to 7 pixels.

This answered a question which I asked myself several times. I've tried 7 cm, 15 cm and 30 cm but could not see much difference. It probably depends on the textures being used. Because I did not realize any performance issues, I leave mine at 7 cm.

If you do wish for better performance, try setting it at 1m as a test

Yeah it depends on the source textures. I think P3D still ships with the low resolution ones from FSX, so to truly see 15cm per pixel you'd need a texture upgrade such as REX4 which replaces all the asphalt and concrete that makes up the hard surfaces at airports.
