Hello folks, thinking about building this rig

Ryzen 5 1600x 3.60GHZ - 4.00GHZ with turbo clock

CM Hyper T4 cpu cooler

Sapphire RX 580 PULSE GDDR5 8GB 256bit GPU

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000mhz 16Gb Ram

MSI B350 AM4 MOBO

Crucial P1 500GB M.2 SSD (1900 mb/s read, 950mb/s write)

Planning to run P3D v4 with a 1080p monitor

I need your honest opinions on this rig and reasonable alternatives. Thanks

Intel tends to work better for P3D as it's still rather dependent on single thread performance and outright clockspeed, AMD tend to excel at multithreaded stuff with more cores. Hence the below spec I came up with, at £1100 https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/553082-p3d-v4-recommended-pc-specs/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-3995572

Do you have anything you could recycle from a previous system? Case, cooler, PSU (only if it's fairly new), SSD/HDD? This works out at about $850: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cj2NKB

Why? With his budget he can build a decent 1080p gaming system - see my previous post.

More performance for your sake outlay. Why get today's budget-mid range components when you can get yesterday's top ones?

Seems pretty solid spec but I have very bad experiences with Seagate so I now stick with Western Digital. Consider an 8600K build too, it might be a bit cheaper and it's not really any slower for flight sim. GTX 1660 Ti is also a decent choice.

That would save you about $135. What brand/power rating is your current PSU?

I also prefer WD HDDs, I was just building down to his budget. The 9600k currently seems to be cheaper than the 8600k so I'd go for the newer technology. I agree that the 1660 Ti will give a little extra performance and would be a good buy with the money he saves from the case and PSU, Without the case and PSU, you could upgrade a few components (SSD, HDD, GPU and slightly faster RAM) to this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZyMx4q

I, too, prefer Western Digital hard drives.  I have had WD Black Caviar drives last more than 10 years.  These days. I prefer solid state drives and Samsung makes really good SSD's, but I would think that WD would make good ones too.

When it comes to CPU's and MicroSoft's flight simulators, and P3D is based on FSX, the Intel CPU's and Nvidia video cards are the top picks.  For whatever reason, even with CPU's at the same speed, the Intel's outperform the AMD's.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

But not by much, any more. Clock-for-clock, there's only about 5% in it when you look at single thread/IPC performance - see: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_threadripper_2970wx_review,10.html. When it comes to multi-thread performance, Intel gets eaten alive, and that's just with the current AMD CPUs. You have to hope that the new MSFS will be a true, multi-threaded app. If the hype is to be believed (which has not generally been the case in the past) the upcoming Ryzen 3000 series processors may equal, or even beat, Intel's equivalents with regards to IPC and at lower cost.

The new Ryzens are due to hit the streets next month and, unless you're in a real hurry to build a new system, it's probably worth waiting to see how they perform in the real world before buying anything.

I'm hoping that AMD will launch a CPU that will equal or exceed the capability of Intel CPU's.  But I have been hoping for that since the launch of Intel's Core2 CPU's.
