I am concerned for the people of New Orleans who are homeless, hungry, thirsty and ill. All I can do is make a contribution to the American Red Cross. Foreign governments could do so much more if only Bush would accept help. This is an extract from today's (UK) Daily TelegraphOn Thursday, President George W Bush seemed to bristle at the suggestion of receiving foreign assistance. "I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we haven't asked for it."I do expect a lot of sympathy, and perhaps some will send cash dollars. But this country is going to rise up and take care of it."Pledges of help had been received from at least 44 countries and organisations such as the United Nations, Nato and the Organisation of American States. But apart from cash donations to charities, and requests for the release of international oil reserves, none has yet been taken up.The offers include: Britain: offered medical experts to help with water-borne diseases; search and rescue equipment; inflatable boats; marine engineers; oil and gas engineers to help rehabilitate refineries and specialists to repair utilities and help reopen the port. The whole article can be seen at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../03/wkat803.xml
