Skyrim Vr: A world in a headset (Steam Sale!)

Recommended Posts

STEAM SUMMER SALE 50% OFF ($29.99)

https://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=skyrim+vr

Do ya' like fantasy worlds? Dragons and magic and swashing your buckle? (huh?)

Then Skyrim might be for you, though I warn that if it is, you just might vanish into that fantasy realm in your HMD and never (or at least till dinnertime) be seen again.

First, if you've played Skyrim before, but not in Vr, then disabuse yourself that they're the same thing. The sheer immersiveness possible once that 3D headset is on your face is akin to the difference between sitting in a cockpit in vr, and staring at a flat screen, however high its resolution. The operative word here is immersion!

Normally, Skyrim VR goes on Steam for a possibly eye-watering $59, which is only ameliorated once you understand that this price includes all of the flat versions DLCs, (essentially a lifetime of exploring for somebody like me)

Added to this is access to a modding community second to none, and literally dozens of websites offering freebie addons ranging from new armors and quests, to racy stuff definitely NSFW.

Dredging through all this (completely optional) extra stuff is akin to just starting with a new sim, lost and clueless, wandering from forum to forum and reading miles of posts documenting how to set things up.

Or fortunately, maybe I can help!

First I would lead the curious to a website, nexus mods, where they can download a nifty little program called VORTEX, which if you have used FTX central, should seem very familiar.

From within vortex you can read about mods (all free) and afterward download and install them with a click. The program checks for conflicts, auto-sorts the addon priorities and a host of useful things that might otherwise take the user forever.

Since the VR version is new, however, some workarounds are required, and you'll very quickly hear about three needed files to get VR Skyrim mods up and working correctly. Rather than have you spend days searching the web for em', I will link them here and you can read up on all the voluminous lists of mods that will look for and need these three plugins:

Yeah, beside a flight or racing sim, this is about the only other VR game I'd be interested in.

Still too expensive considering I bought the original version at full price back in the day and the VR implemantation is lackluster on the UI side of things. For 15 bucks I would say yes.
