Thanks everyone.

No this is not ORBX TE. I created the scenery myself using a combination of freeware, Ortho4XP and World2XPlane. The only payware in the screenshots is the Grumman Tiger by vFlyte - a great little GA plane by the way.

To summarize:

Ortho4xp ZL17 with decals enabled.
W2XP with hightly modified configuration and CSV files pointing to art assets in various freeware libraries to give a more North American look than the default W2XP files. I also modified some of the texture files that are used.
US Forests and Woodland for Ortho scenery 1.0.0 from https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/45408-us-forests-and-woodland-for-ortho-scenery/
I used XPlanes library.txt system to create regional variations in the forests throughout the USA.

After a lot of hard work, the end result is not as refined as ORBX TE, but a very close second. I am happy with the overall result and, the nice thing is, I have it for the entire Western USA inland to Colorado as well as Florida and some of the North Eastern Seaboard. I also have some parts of Canada, although the results are not as good with respect to forest placement.

I think the outcome is a good showcase of what is possible in X-Plane using freeware and the free tools that have been so generously provided to the community.

It actually might look better than Orbx and I'm quite sure you feel it does (thats what happens when you pour lots of hard work into something) but a person like me has to rely on Orbx or MSFS2020 because ground scenery was just never my thing even in FSX/P3D let alone XP.  i've tried messing with some of the textures and available documentations must be quite outdated.  i cant even find the files that mix the other files for default scenery.  id rather design skies and clouds anyway.

I don't have Orbx TE Washington to compare with, but I do have TE Southern England which is excellent. My 'homemade' scenery is definitely better in some places than others, as the data for building placement comes from OSM while ORBX has access to multiple data sources and creates a wider variety of 3D objects to fill the building footprints. I also believe they color correct the ortho images providing a more consistent experience.

In my own scenery, where there is OSM data for individual houses and buildings, it takes precedent. Where there is no OSM data, the default X-plane autogen overlays the scenery instead. This still looks good, but not as good as individually placed buildings. The big advantage for me is I have wider coverage than currently available through ORBX and there is no cost other than my time.

Having said that, ORBX TE is overall more refined, detailed and comprehensive than what I can make myself, but the difference in some areas, including the above screenshots, is minimal. For those who don't have the time or desire to generate their own scenery, it is nice ORBX is developing the TE series and I am still tempted to purchase more of them when they go on sale.

Like everyone I am also excited to see what MSF2020 has to offer, but that is still a long ways off.

Very nice.  I think yours looks better than Orbx because of ZL17.  I believe they used ZL16.
