What program did you download and install in FSX?

Thanks cmpbellsjc

It was ....

What I don't understand is how it wiped out 80 GB from my drive J in about 2 or 3 minutes.

It may have nothing to do with the add-on.  Sounds to me like a trojan or virus attack, or a serious disk system malfunction.  The  0x80070005 error is a file permission problem, and is also fairly common to see in conjunction with some of the data deletion attacks.

It could be that just the directory entries were erased, which looks the same as if the files were all deleted...in that case at least some of the data may be recoverable with a data recovery utility.

If it were me, I would start by restoring the drive from my last backup image.  This is exactly the kind of situation for which I take the time to make regular backup images.

Saw nothing in this download that would cause what you described.  Did you also download and install the recommended scenery that Mr. Welker mentioned?  That could have been the cause or you picked up a virus from somewhere.

Awaiting the new Microsoft Flight Sim and the purchase of a new system.  Running a Chromebook for now!

No, it was just the main download.

My hard drive (J:) is now completely empty except for one very small file.. bootsqm.dat (3.25 KB) which was not in before the event. Could this file be part of  the attack?
