How uninstall many P3D stuff?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a very big P3D. I think that because of this it is getting slow and want to restart / install.

But how can I uninstall / cleanup all there is now the best / handy / quick way? Using uninstall from all the programs or windows control panel would be a big challenge.

(Currently have 90 airports and a couple of Orbx Ftx product installed. And about 6 airplanes big and small.)

Thanks,

The best way is using un-install procedures provided by the authors, period.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

WoW! 90 airports.  Even after you uninstall/reinstall maybe you will right back where you started, 😁  If it was me rather than try to uninstall everything, I would (again, this is just me):

1. Make sure I have all backs/serial numbers/keys of my products.  Do I have backups?
2. Uninstall P3D completely but properly to retain the activation.
3. Format my P3D harddisk (I always use a separate SSD for P3D)
4. Reinstall P3D.  test all is OK in default mode.
5. start adding back in my add-ons.  99% of mine on on other hard disks so for those I only have to activate many again.  Others, that are more tricky I would re-install.
6. Plan for several days if not weeks to reinstall-test.
7. REST! 😛

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, EVGA GeForce 3080 Ti, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit

I think you will go through a lot of time and effort for very little gain.  When you add back all your addons your load time will increase to what you see now.

It is a myth that computer systems must be emptied and cleaned up like a drum of heating oil.

When I want to remove addons for troubleshooting purposes, there are a few simple steps:  Most of my 120+ airports are added on add-on.xml files so a quick dirty way to turn them off is to rename the document addon folder to "NOT Prepar3D v4 Add-ons" and P3D creates a new Prepar3D v4 Add-ons empty folder.  To restore just delete the 'NOT' and the empty folder.  One may also add .OFF extensions to your add-on.cfg and scenery .cfg files in the programs data area, and on next load P3D creates new ones that are either empty or with just default scenery.

I'm very lazy and always look for ways to save time and effort.

Rather than uninstalling them, try selectively disabling them.  The awesome freeware Lorby-SI P3D Addon Manager is a great tool for automating the process...you can group airports together (by region, or type of flying, or any other logical criteria) and mass enable/disable them by-group in a few clicks.  When you disable them in P3D Addon Manager they become essentially invisible to P3D.

If you want to reinstall, with more than a few dozen airports, it's generally easier to reinstall P3D anew and re-install the airports.  In many cases, as long as you haven't also reinstalled Windows, the registry data will still be there, and the installer won't even ask for the registration data.  But if you have airports or other add-ons that require de-registration prior to reinstalling, you'll have to uninstall them first.  Hence the first recommendation that you selectively disable rather than uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks for your thoughts all here,

I got this many because I am a news poster and got benefits from that. I like Orbx so buy those myself.

Since p3d is in my windows drive I do not want to do a format. Also I intend to keep my p3d a bit smaller then currently, hoping a fps gain. Although I did already turned many off using scenery config editor. Owh what a hobby.

Thanks for thinking with me. I probable delete folders, and install p3d in a non standard folder name so that older add-on installations do not point at the new p3d installation.

Maikel.

A "smaller" P3D does not equal an fps gain, unfortunately.

If you have disabled the sceneries that you do not need, P3D will no longer know about them, and a reinstall will have no effect.

The first thing I would do, is to rename the prepar3d.cfg file and let p3d build a new one.  Also delete the files in the Shaders folder if you have made any texture changes.

You have not said what all you have added to p3d or what settings you have selected. So there is not much we can do to help, other than to suggest that a reinstall may not change anything..
