Captainsim L1011 Released for P3Dv4

Recommended Posts

This came out of nowhere?  Some new features/improvements added.  No mention of an upgrade option for previous owners that I could find.

As much as I grew up, flew on and love the L-1011, I'm not going to give CS another dime until they fix the performance in the VC of the 757. Even my system, specs below, just doesn't like that plane.

From their product page:

https://captainsim.net/products/y011/y112/

"The 1011 CAPTAIN II is a port over from 32-bit version except the features marked New! We'll fix compatibility issues of the 64-bit version but no further development expected in 2019."

and

"COCKPIT
  • Functional flight deck loaded with accurate systems simulation
  • Adjustable flood lights New!
  • Panels’ backlight independent from the flood lights New!
  • WXR
  • Improved CIVA New!
  • Hundreds of realistic animations
  • High resolution textures
  • Aux 2D panels
  • Custom views

EXTERIOR
  • Cabin with windows, interior, pax, stewardess and pilots
  • Hundreds of realistic animations including wing flex
  • Custom visual effects including volumetric lighting New!

MISC FEATURES
  • Fuel and payload manager New!
  • Authentic engines sound set
  • ACE (Aircraft Configuration Editor) New!
  • Growing number of easily installable free liveries
  • Extensive Manual

Almost $50 for a port over and a few lighting improvements, no thanks. At least I'd expect an upgrade price for the V3 owners. At this price I'll pass.

I quite enjoyed their L1011 in P3Dv3. But not so much that I'd pay full price again for a minor upgrade and dll recompile. If CS is listening, I'll go $20 for a P3D upgrade.😄

When FS2020 is released  (assuming developers get involved with it) they will charge another $50 or much more for the upgrade.

I'm surprised they haven't updated the 767 for v4. The 757 I get but the 777 and now the L-1011. What is it about the 767 that nobody wants to touch it. Level-D not making any efforts, that's for sure.

You know, given that they have now released two P3Dv4+ compatible aircraft in relatively short time and, as you say, still have not touched the 767, which seems like the obvious next choice, I seriously wonder now if they are doing a total rework of the 767, similar to what they did for the 757.

Consider this: PMDG already did the 777 in a way that CS will probably never rival. The L1011 is not really a mainstream aircraft, so why invest the resources for a total rework? Same goes for a lot of the classic liners - while beautiful and interesting, it's not likely to be the range of addons that will see a ton of sales, and thus probably not deserving of all the resources.

Now, the 767, still going strong in the world, very clearly is a much-coveted addon by many simmers. I wouldn't be surprised if they are doing a total, from-the-ground-up rework of it, but are releasing easier-to-produce packages in the meantime. Perhaps just to increase cash flow.

I think that’s a good theory.

Not to drift too far from the L-1011 news but two things to say on a possible CS767. 1-please don't use the same VC as the 757. The performance is awful. 2-I bet they will charge $76.70 for the base model.

Now back to the L-1011 topic. 😀

I think I bought the first L1011 in one of their $10 sales so I don’t feel to hard up paying normal price for it now.

Anyone know how performance is on this? Honestly I’ve been burnt twice on CS aircraft and doubt I’m going to be fooled again so this would have to be an amazing aircraft for me to put past experience behind.

Same here. I own the v3 version and won’t pay again for a port over.
