What We Want (Part 1)

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

First, sorry for my bad english ;)

Since the begining i wasn't reacting on this forum because so many others have tell already how much promising is this sim.

But, as Asobo seems to use the philosophy  "listen and communicate with community", i think it's our job to say our needs and let them make the good choices ;) (Very good philosophy indeed ;) )

Here is my two cents :

I think that Fs 2020 can offer something in a new way than just flight.

I mean, in any other titles, you pickup a plane, a place and.. go to flight.

Any other things like planning phase, learning phase, weather predictions etc are generaly made with external website or 3rd party programs if you want them realistic.

Personnaly, i d'ont like to "learn" other products to achieve a realistic flight becasue it's so much time consuminng and not everyone have the time to.

The result is that a majority of users just take flight and discover some places around the world in free flight. So they don't really progress and can even abandon.

For harcore simmers, there is no problem to learn some usefull 3rd party tools but in the same time, they probably stay on the same plane learning procedure and train in a specialised way than a majority of players wouldn't reach.

My idea is to propose something like in racesim or sportsim games where you have the opportunity to learn AND play.

Let's take an example.

- You load the sim and setting it up

-In the menu, create a user name and avatar or some stuff like that. Your progressions will be saved.

-Generally, you start by choosing a place where you want to be, let's say, i want to go to my local aeroclub.

Sim load and place you in the tower or fixed camera place in the aeroclub.

There, you can already see by transparance of the menu the other planes from AI or humans online flying. (Like you do in a racesim when you stay in the pitlane for example )

- Then, you have all the menu to create your flight completely without 3rd party prorgramms. From a simple free flight to an international ifr flight.

BUT, the differences here are that your options available will be directly dicted by those aspects :

1 The airport class (You can't choose a 747 in your local Aeroclub )

2 The rewards and class that you have reached with different learning tutorials

3 The options of rules gameplay (ex: Free flight/ private pilot vfr rules/ifr/commercial and full rules)

Each option result in a more or less complexity of your flight planning. A freeflight from an aeroclub means just fill the fuel, payload and go. An IFR will need a precise flight plan created and send to control tower, etc.. )

Last but not least, some options can be like "real weather impact rules" (You must have completed the ifr tutorial to fly on low visibility) etc..

And finally, having the opportunity in option to fly online with ai and humans in real time and communicate with them via a complete atc (Option can be "player visible" or "not visible" for those who don't want to be disturbed by other pilots.)

I'm not for a true closed rating system but more a license level made with tutorials that make all players progress in the sim and not only fly ;) (Some rewards can be included for fun too)

Just an idea to make the sim more fun. Flying realistic is an adventure by itself ;)

Cheers ;)

@trollray this system could also be used in multiplayer mode to allow ATC positions only to those who have successfully completed the course.

Yes...key word being optional. A NOTAM add-on sounds as about as enjoyable as a root canal add-on.

I do not share this view: NOTAMs are important to (real) aviation. I think that it is more important to plan properly the flight (e.g. taking into account the selection of alternates for a IFR flight and, as a result, the quantity of fuel carried, the performance...) than having some shiny PBR effects on the stabilizer that I can't see from the cockpit.

If I agree that the current (real world) system should be upgraded to reflect more pertinent information, a NOTAM system should be incorporated in the sim out of the box (and I agree: with an op-out option for the people who don't want to bother with it). That would be a potential good use of the AI (if we can see our car in our home driveway, why not some construction trucks on a taxiway?) for a selected range of items: runway / taxiway closure, navigation facilities (VOR, ILS, G/S...) down for maintenance, TFRs, ARTCC, SSLIA level, RAIM outages...

Sorry, my joke really did not translate the way it was intended as I offended person offering the original idea. That honestly was not my intent.

Let me offer a real world example of a flight I did recently to First Flight (KFFA) - just 250nm flight from my home airport. The NOTAMs section of my preflight briefing was 560 lines long...probably 250+ items. I am very thankful ForeFlight helps to translate the raw NOTAM text to an easier to read format, but even with the help it is pretty cumbersome to wade through all of that information to find the 3 or 4 items that I did need to consider for the flight.

So yeah, if MFS would include a NOTAM option, I think that would be a very cool addition to further infuse realism into the sim for those that opt to use it. And if ASOBO wants to employ Azure AI to figure out a better way to interpret and represent real world NOTAMS, maybe they can help solve a real world need in the process! 👍

People read NOTAMS in real life?  News to me haha.

Honestly, anything resembling real water physics would be great.  How airplanes interact with the water is the #1 difference in flying a seaplane and no game has even come close.  I'd love to be able to spin a Twin Otter around on it's axis like you can in real life.

This topic has pretty much covered anything that ever be wished for in a flight simulator and now we are into repeating things, so it is being locked.

Thanks for playing.
