Bizarre Issue: Keyboard F key stops working

Recommended Posts

For some weird reason, every time I start XP11 , my keyboard F key will stop working.  Combinations will work, including Ctrl/Shift+F and holding the key down will result in ffffffffff.  But a single F press won't work....this is outside of XP as well, like Chrome browser, Microsoft Word etc etc.

Even after closing XP11 it will still happen in Windows 10.  After a reboot it will work normally again.

Anyone ever heard of such an issue?

Windows 10 updated.

Not so strange Ryan, I have the same quirk.

Gordon

Do you use a Bluetooth keyboard?

Oh and by the way it happens in P3d v4.5 and haven't noticed it in my Linux XP11 rig, so am thinking Win 10 glitch.

Being a new XP11 user, I just tested it on my setup out of curiosity and there is no problem with the F key while XP11 is running (nor after shutting it down). Tested with Notepad and MS Word 2019. My keyboard is a quite old Logitech G15 USB, XP 11.35, Windows 10 Pro 1809.

I know it does not help you, but it could indicate that the problem is not really Windows 10 itself. Have you tried with a different keyboard ?

I had a similar issue (P3D) where I would lose certain keys or the whole keyboard and only a reboot would fix it. I found it to be the LVAR Bridge knocking it out or some bad code or LUA script. I ran a update for it and it has fixed the issue. I use SpadNext to assign all my panels and controllers. I haven't had the issue since maybe this will give you a clue to finding a solution for your issue.

If it is happening outside of sims, in apps like Notepad etc. then maybe your keyboard is wearing out?  How old is the kb?

Have you tried cleaning the keyboard?

You drink that Wild Cherry Pepsi over that 'board eh?

In  my case, using Win 10 and P3D 4.5 I use FSUIPC to program rotary switches that interface with a (Flight 1) GTN750 using keys CTRL+ALT+Shift+keys A through H missing key F as this is consistently not read.

Being A) Bone idle and B) in the process of ditching Windows / P3D for Linux / XP11 I have not investigated the root cause. Freebird's comment about it being a Lua issue strikes a cord as I use Lua scripts with FSUIPC.

As an aside I am finding the comparison between Win 10 / P3D and Linux / XP11  illuminating. XP11 is running on a 2700K GTX1080 at 4.1mhz. P3D on a brand new 9700K GTX970 at 5.1Mhz. Flying the Orbx TrueEarth UK demo and EGHI freeware in XP11 is comparable with P3D running UK VFR photo, Treescapes, Revolution X autogen and Orbx EGHI

I have 4 various computers/laptops three are now running Mint 19.1 The 9700K motherboard is too new for Linux just yet. Linux/XP11/GTX1080 NVMe PCIE disks at 5.1mhz some day soon - bring it!

It's definitely XP11.  It happens when I actually load into the sim.  the key still works at the loading bar screen.

I've disabled my LUA scripts (I actually only had one enabled, the rest I renamed *.bak)

No idea what's causing the issue.

This is FINALLY solved!

A guy on PilotEdge discord helped me figure out that Track IR was using the key F for one of the hotkeys.  I thought it was the same profile for XP11 and P3D but they are different.  Oh man so happy woo!  The fix was to exit out of TIR completely (it was hanging out in my system tray after I quit XP11).  So it was TIR afterall, not XP.
