A blurry mesh question

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys.  I'm getting blurry mesh and mesh that seems to take forever to get crisp.  I have a very fast computer.  A fresh FS9 install.  Other than airports my main addons are Ultimate Terrain USA,  Ground Environment Pro, REX OD for clouds, FS Global Real Weather for wx updates, and Zinertek Water.   I'm assuming my fs9.cfg will need some tweaking, but unsure exact changes to make.  Anybody have any pointers?

I've made these changes and seems to be much better, but open to other ideas:

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000

TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.5 // Also try 9.0
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.0
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

I think you're referring to terrain texture quality, not mesh, but I know what you mean.  Here's my settings, which I'm happy with:

[DISPLAY]
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400
TEXTUREMAXLOAD=12
[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=2.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=1400.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=1.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=100.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=9

Thanks. Any hard with a frame rate over 30? If I don’t have texture max load like you have can I just add it?

Yes, go ahead and add TEXTUREMAXLOAD yourself; it's not in the default config file.  The range of settings is usually from 10 to 14.  There's another setting in the default file under "Graphics" called TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD, which has a different function and which I set to 1024.  I lock my FPS at 30 as any higher causes more blurry textures and 30 is my preferred trade off between smooth flight and visual quality on my system.
