Flight Service Stations in FSX?

Recommended Posts

Guest davidvoogd

It would be nice to see some element of Flight Service Stations implemented into FSX. Basically to allow you to get reports on local, destination and enroute weather, file VFR flightplans etc.

I agree! That would add more realism.

LOL nope not a service station like those for cars, the ones for flying where you file flightplans, call for weather info etc.It would be cool to have active FBO's for GA aircraft though!

no. I'm doing this as a hobby, and that includes getting away from filing forms and getting shouted at for not following rules.

that would be nice, but tune your radio to an in-range ATIS and you get it already.Or use Activesky. Functionality like that would be nice, but don't make it mandatory to go into some screen, file a flightplan, request a weather update (and get the flightplan denied if the weather is below limits of course), etc. etc.If you go that way you should also require specific licenses be gained before you're allowed to fly particular aircraft, fly at night, in clouds, etc. etc., basically change the entire product into a game with a highly specific timeline of instruction, exams, etc.And of course getting grounded if you break a rule, getting your license withdrawn and not being able to start FS for a year while the virtual FAA reviews your case.If we go that way I'm outa here and not coming back, because that's the last thing I want in my spare time.

I have done that and it does work well enough, but even a very basic "flightwatch" weather radio station for general areas would be a nice change from having to pause the flight. The main reason I ask this is because I do a lot of my flights in remote areas of Canada where no ATIS is available most of the time, and even AWOS's are few and far between (as it is in real life of course), so dialing up an FSS station to hear the weather at my flightplan destination would be a handy thing, even if it's in a basic and somewhat unrealistic method. Of course I could see that opening a whole new can of worms and complaints so I can see why you'd leave things as they are for now. It wouldn't disappoint me that much to not see it in FSX but I thought it would be a nice option.

That's not totaly out of whack. You could tune in the RCO's just like you tune in the other ATC freq's. Might be alot more coding for the team though...lol.
