Experiences with new Phd cockpit airbus sidestick ?

Recommended Posts

I just bought one from Phd store at 178 dollar (129+customs)  it was looking impressive on the picture and a good substitution for my Logitech. But what a disaster !  It is not usable at all as there is no rudder command ! (no Z axis) and X and Y axis are not linear, just 4 simple micro switches giving 0 or 100%.

After 5 hrs, i gave up trying different settings in FSUIPC...just lost 180 dollars !  I feel cheated

If this is supposed to be a realistic sidestick then it must not have a z-axis under any circumstance. That is what rudder pedals are for.

So that hardly speaks against it.

What does speak against it that the company that produces it does not even reveal a business adress on their website.

In their Privacy Policy you can at least see that a company called AbZtract! Limited is the owner of CockpitPHD. But good luck finding out who "AbZtract! Limited" is.

So for future reference: If you can't find out who is behind a sale, if a company is not giving base information like business adress, place of jurisdiction, do NOT BUY from them.

Really sorry to hear that.

Did you notice that "This product is handcrafted"? I've just watched the photos and it looks like the quality is low.

Maybe next time you should ask community feedback before buying.

Personally I've never heard about this seller and the same for the joystick.

The cockpitphd website IP address traces back to Hong Kong.  They have a handful of products for sale on Simmarket, mostly odd add-on hardware for existing units like the Saitek/Logitech throttle quads.

It sounds like this stick has the electronics of an arcade joystick rather than a proportional flight controller.

A hard lesson learned here...Caveat Emptor

Rudder are pedals, indeed but i dont want to buy a still more expensive pedal set, i used to turn the stick for that. Anyway thx guys, indeed a hard lesson, What i am most frustrated about is their big character slogan in their ad: 100% satisfactory, 30d moneyback guarantee -  It is not true !  only if defective, they say... Stay away from their store.

Just looking at their pictures, it looks like a 3D-Printed stick rather than "handcrafted"....

Even then, it's hard to believe it's just a 4-way switch......

If it's me, I might try to modify it with 2 potentiometer by myself... but that still could be quite a lot work....

Make a video on it/detailed review post. I saw it online and was concerned by the lack of reviews. It is important you do so to warn others of what appears to be a scam.

I saw your crosspost on flightsim.com. Just send it back and get your money back regardless. on/off outputs are defective imo even if its designed like that. Garbage.

The Thrustmaster TCA equivalent of this Airbus joytsick has better quality having read some reviews of it.

Cockpit PhD has been a fairly long perpetrator of poorly made controller add ons to make them “more realistic”. I got a set for the Saitek quadrant back in a day. It was reasonable for what I got. Something like $30 for new handles and flap lever/detent. It was really the flap detents I wanted. The rest was complete garbage it was hand milled wood Boeing sticks painted in white enamel. Some stuff is reasonable for the price. Primarily the Saitek handle mods. But none of it good quality.

I think recently they’ve added a flap detent mod for the Bravo quadrant that’s a direct ripoff from freeware stuff at Flapmodster. It’s something like $30 which I guess is an ok price if you don’t own a 3D printer. But a complete ripoff if you do. I think I printed mine with about 50-100g of PLA filament, so about $1-2 and a fairly small investment in machine time.
