Is there a tool for this?

Recommended Posts

Very recently I have been having lots of game crashes and I have not had those before. I have no idea what is causing it and I don't want to reinstall everything that I have. I was wondering if there is a tool that lets me know what caused the crash. That way I could pinpoint the problems more accurately. When the game crashes it doesn't give any kind of message or code, It just says P3D has stopped working. Sometimes I can fly all day with no problem and sometimes I can fly for 20 minutes. Very annoying so I would appreciate any help, thanks.

Win 10 has a feature called Reliability monitor which is quite useful for isolating problems, I've been using it lately to track down screen monitor/driver/graphics issues. Just click on the column with the red x and a window opens describing the problem and a possible solution, as well as reporting to MS.

Check the two main things to cause crashes after it being normal, 1) clean the inside of computer, video card of dust. 2) Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool, or MemTest.

Dust = Death , GPU's & CPU's are susceptible to overheating and will shut down your rig once their max rating is hit  ,using a small compressor I blow out my machines when I start hear the fans run under load , when there is no dust they are almost silent as they are running at low speed .

Power supplies can cause hard crashes when they start to fail , machine goes black with no warning ,without any great load but will restart , its a sign you need a bigger PSU .

Please do not use a compressor...canned "air" is dry pumped to remove moisture, your compressor, unless you have the appropriate filters, is not. You are literally spraying the motherboard with water and lubricants that conduct electricity.

For information, this was also in Win 7 (and therefore, I presume, also Win 8).

Thank you for that tool. I read the message but It's too technical for me. The only thing understood was sound (ha ha). Here is the message:

Faulting application name: Prepar3D.exe, version: 4.4.16.27077, time stamp: 0x5bfdbb35
Faulting module name: sound.dll, version: 4.4.16.27077, time stamp: 0x5bfdbaa2
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000000228dd

You might try disabling any unused sound devices...one common troublemaker associated with sound.dll is the nVidia HD Sound driver that gets installed with most video cards (used to support HDMI audio piggybacked with video to a TV or similar device).

I've had trouble in the past with conflicts caused by that device, which were resolved by disabling the device in Control Panel -> Device Manager

I've been using a 2 gallon electric oil free compressor for 20 years and have never had any problems. Cans are ok but what a waste and does a mediocre job at best.
