Monitor upgrade 1080p or 1440p.

I want to upgrade my monitor to go with my new built (i9900k and 2080ti)

I currently have a 32inch 1080p 144hz and I'm looking to go with a 35 inch 1440p 100hz. 

Is it worth the upgrade and is there a visual difference between 1080p and 1440p?

Yes, a huge difference on monitors over 30". With your new system, I'd go larger (38"+) with a UHD monitor. Your graphics card is wasted at 1440p.

The RTX 2080Ti is overkill for the 1440p. I would go for a 4K TV.

I agree a 4K monitor will be great for your specs but if you rllly wany some amazing frames you can never go wrong with a 1440p

I agree with the other two posters. UHD / 4K. The 2080Ti can handle it with ease. You can either go with a 16:9 32" UHD monitor or 40"+ TV if you have the space. But the TV must have HDR capability (chroma 4:4:4) for quality text images.

I also play FPS games thats why I went for 1440p and due to the lack of 4K 35 inch monitors.

@Alexandre6463, of the two monitors the Asus ROG looks the better as it supports 3440*1440 at 30Hz. Whilst 100Hz+ are great for game playing it is unnecessary for P3D where frame rates are much lower. Many users like to run at 30Hz for the extra smoothness it gives over 60Hz. The Viewsonic cannot run at 30Hz.

If you're sure you want a extra widescreen monitor then that's fine. But your 2080Ti is capable of running at 3840*2160 and the extra sharpness that resolution brings makes a big difference. 2160 vertical pixels is almost 50% more than 1440. That makes a big difference. In game playing at fast speeds you probably wouldn't notice the higher resolution but you certainly will in P3D.

Ultimately it's your choice as to which of game playing or flight sim are more important to you. You could try asking on game forums if a 32" 3840*2160 16:9 monitor is okay for game playing. They don't go any higher than 32" generally with a couple of larger ones costing silly money

My other question to those who run 4K hdr type large screens. What about non games?  Email, spreadsheets and browsing the web. How is the experience?  I’ve never tried that on a tv and never sitting a foot away?  But I’m in the market to upgrade my 27” curved widescreen 1080p.

I can only speak about my own experience with my 32" 16:9 UHD monitor. Without Windows 10 and its ability to scale everything up it would be very difficult to resize all aspects of the interface. There's a single setting called Scaling which by default is set to 150% and everything is fine.

As for a 50" TV I haven't a clue.

Thanks ray. Looking forward to hearing what others say. One of the reasons I’m upgrading is size of the monitor. My 27 wide is great but I find I have to zoom in sometimes to clearly see the virtual cockpit gauges. The other is clarity. Which I know would improve going away from 1080p. So I definitely want to go bigger for the Zoom thing. But I don’t want to go so big that I feel like I’m not not noticing the resolution upgrade. Especially considering my face will be less than a foot from the screen.

@micstatic, UHD is four times the resolution of HD. I can read every bit of writing on the PMDG737 virtual cockpit and that isn't even optimised for UHD. The clarity of the gauges is superb but don't forget the ground textures and clouds also look great. The only things that don't are airport buildings. Those will be improved over time.

The reason you don't really see UHD monitors larger than 32" is because that is the optimal size.
