@331BK I turn off DL at most 3rd airports because even with my system it can be a performance hog. If FSDT has done a better job of implementing it than that’s great news and I hope other Devs follow the practice.

It's miles better than at other sceneries with no performance impact at all (in my case, I don't know if this is true for everyone). I would be interested to know what the reason is, @virtuali.

For those wondering, I created a new topic about the lack of night textures on arriving from a medium to long range flight a couple days ago in their forum. Umberto was in his forum a couple hours ago and replied to a bunch of threads in the KORD sub-forum. However, he did not reply to any of the users that posted in the new night lighting thread and chose to ignore it I presume. One would think they would acknowledge this problem at least and tell us they will look into no?  I personally think they have realized a big issue with this lack of night texturing and I'm betting the fix is big time changes to the scenery that they don't want to do. Hence they are ignoring those that post about it (lock threads as well) and hope we go away.

Yes sir, you are correct.  I also found it odd that they locked the topic.  I rationalize that they have enough information and that they were able to confirm the issue and locked the topic down until they could can sort it out.  I hope they reward my optimism with a fix down the road.  But it's strange that they took that action without at the very least saying they would look into it.  That said, they took a big risk trying to develop a major scenery using an entirely new method. I respect that.  But, maybe they should have perfected their process on a smaller project before taking on a project this large.

Exactly, I thought this was obvious, no need to keep repeating the same things over and over, when we were investigating it.

In addition to that, yesterday I was away the whole afternoon, and since Alessandro ( KORD's author) is on a very short vacation until Friday, he likely locked the thread so people won't assume "I wasn't responding" for the whole day.

Anyway, back on the topic at hand it seems this problem is in fact another simulator bug, and it has been known since 2018, see this post from Aerosoft:

https://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/132680-no-dynamic-lighting-at-destination/

We never got to encounter it before, simply because  ( AGAIN ), when objects the DL effect are attached to are created as Simobjects, the problem doesn't happen, and since we USED to make most of our scenery using dynamically created Simobjects, we weren't affected by this in KCLT or KSDF. And, we couldn't noticed during KORD developement, because we started by doing everything as Simobjects, like we usually did, and converted most of it back to .BGL in the last days, because we wanted to be the scenery to load as smooth as possible and not use Simobjects if wasn't really necessary.

So, again, just like the "floating object" bug, which wouldn't have happened if we relied on Simobjects created by Couatl, we were affected by another bug of the simulator because we decided to be as standard as possible with KORD V2.

Fortunately, there IS a workaround for this, without having to be forced to convert even the general DL into Simobjects, which of course is already up on Live Update now, together with the other problem reported of bumps at the end of the the northern runway.

I must say this is a strong candidate for being the most absurd, unfair, unfunded and conspiracy-obsessed post I ever seen.

So, I was on the forum today for a couple of hours, but deliberately chose not to reply to the missing DL thread ? Conspiracy theories starting up ? I found absurd and borderline insulting having to justify my working times, but this is how I "wasted" the last hours:

- Replying all the OTHER messages which were backlogged, since yesterday I was out of office for the whole afternoon, and couldn't check the forum, and that alone took a couple of hours.

- Make the fix required to solve the missing DL at night, which apparently is a known problem of the sim that is known to other developers which are also waiting this to be fixed, and found a workaround in the meantime. Applied the same workaround here too and tested if it worked.

- Fixed the problem with the airplane bumping on the far end of 27R, because a flatten wasn't entirely right there. Taxied over the affected place with the PMDG 747 to be sure it worked

- Checked another error report of GSX crashing with an error in FSX when the Underground fuel was selected.

- Made the fix in GSX to prevent the error.

- Uploaded all the fixed files to the Live Update. Ran the Live Update, to be sure the correct files would be downloaded.

- Tested in the sim again, to be sure the downloaded files worked.

- Wrote the previous message on Avsim, to announce of both problems to be fixed.

- Wrote the same message on our forum, to announce of both problems to be fixed.

- Wrote the fix description to the Live Update released notes. Uploaded the updated release notes on the update server.

That's exactly how I "wasted" the last hours. Oh, sorry, I forgot I had lunch in the meantime, sorry for that too...

Yesterday morning and the day before yesterday, I was wasting my time trying to see ways to improve the quality of the grass background, but I'm afraid you'll have to wait next week for news about this, because Alessandro, the scenery author, is on vacation, and I'm not feel confident making a major change like that without checking with him.

There's not "big issue" anywhere in the scenery. The fix was trivial, and it took more time to search that it was in fact a known problem that other developers confirmed to be as bug in the simulator and how can be prevented, than doing it.

And as already explained in other post, had we relied more on our Couatl engine as we always did, the problem would never happened in the first place (just like T5 ghosting in the air), it's just that, the more we do things in the "normal" way, the more we are exposed to bugs in the simulator that are apparently well known by other developers, but are still bugs nonetheless, and even the workaround is not exactly the cleanest solution I would like, but it basically work.

How dare you! Taking time off. This is the internet, don't you know we expect all problems to be solved instantly and preferably yesterday? 😉

Communication is a two-way process.  On one hand, it is unreasonable to jump immediately to conclusions that there's a cover-up of a serious flaw simply because there's been no action for a few days.  On the other hand, just locking a thread with no comment, or even allowing it to sit unanswered while other topics are addressed, invites people to draw their own (often faulty) conclusions about what might be going on.

A single line response like "We're looking at this" sure goes a long way towards suppressing the fires of discontent.

It wasn't no actions for "a few days", the "no action" was just yesterday afternoon, because I was away and while I was away, Alessandro must have locked the thread, because he's away on vacation with no PC and just his phone, and might have found difficult to post a reply, so he locked the thread assuming people would figure it out a locked thread means "no use to post further, because the thing is being checked", and add to that the fact he's not very comfortable with written English as well.

Also, when you factor different time zones, losing an afternoon of work sometimes feels "a few days".

If only I actually took some time off...

I had to go to the "nearest" Apple Store, which in my case is in another country, since in the south of Switzerland where I live the closest one is in Milan, because my 3500$ MacBook Pro is at risk of an exploding battery ( the battery has inflated ), and this happened for the 2nd time, since I already had the battery replaced 2 years ago for the same reason. Apple issued a global free recall, but since mine was already serviced before the recall, they won't give a refund (they do that for the 13-inch model only, weird), so I'll have to pay again for another battery replacement, they only thing they did was a 20% discount for the new repair.

That's real world support for a 3500$ computer, compared to a 30$ scenery...

Nope, they only have an authorized service center, which suggested to go to Milan, since there is Apple directly, while they are a 3rd party dealer.

@virtuali I'm getting a lot of install errors saying that certain source files have been corrupted. Any idea what could be causing this?
