Reccomended GA for a tour around Europe?

Featured Replies

Hi again! After some serious consideration, I've come to the (sad) conclusion that the Baron is too large, and to fast for me.This is getting really annoying now, but I found the Piper Archer II from Carenado. What a BEAUTIFUL aircraft!I belive the whole GPS 'issue' will be solved with an order or two from RXP.I'm not sure, but how does the Archer II fit in my perspective?Would the 206 be a better choice compared to the Archer II?I'm sorry for the way I am, but the whole *can't decide* issue appears in many other games aswell. So please, bear with me!Best of Regards,Christer Fredholm

I don't have the Archer, as I have both the Cherokee and Dakota. But, I used both on my last European tour. And I have also fitted both with full RXP avionics, even an Apollo version.I would say it would be fine, but I do think the 206 may be easier to handle in tight situations you may get into within mountainous regions. Plus, it has 'the grunt' and power. Here is my Cherokee with RXP mods:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156102.jpgI have since added an AP below the ADF radio in the 'right' panel. And yes, I know most nobody would ever spend this much on their Cherokee :D

You know, another option you have is to go with the freeware Maule, a really great performer. And you could fit it with the RXP Apollo package in order to get a fully functioning GPS system. Here is a shot of my Maule with RXP Apollo mods, albeit I have not 100% finished yet, as I got caught up with other things. It is functional 'as-is' though. This would be a great choice as the plane is free, and the Apollo RXP package would be all that is required, although I do have the FLT 'T' gauges in mine as well.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156110.jpg

bkeske,I bought the Apollo set from RXP since it was rather cheap. However, I don't understand how to install it into the Piper Archer II.Could you please give me some instructions on how do get the gauges to work, please?I started the config program and selected the Archer II panel. After enabling *everything* I try to start FS9, but the screen turns black and nothing happens!Could you help me installing the Apollo addon, and also give me a clue or two on how to position the addon to the right spot on the panel, and VC?Best of Regards,Christer Fredholm

I don't have the Archer, so cannot help you directly. But, you must 'insert' the Apollo units into the panel.cfg by replacing the Carenado gauges/radios.In other words, you cannot simply run the config tool and expect the units to be installed, you have to do that within the panel.cfgUnfortunately, looking at the 'user files' area, no one has published these mods for the Archer/Apollo on the RXP site. So, you will have to learn how to do it from 'scratch' ;)It isn't that tough once you get the hang of it.Just remember, don't do anything to the panel.cfg without backing it up. Personally, I make a new folder completely and would call it panel.apollo, then 'call up' that panel in the aircraft.cfg as you would a texture add.

Hello!I'm buying a X52 Flight Controller from Saitek today!I belive I'm all set for the 'journey' now.I tried to add the RXP GPS into the VC, but without success.I'll use the built in 'standard' GPS instead, I belive it will do the job.I'm not sure if you can activate the RXP GPS in a 'pop up' fashion though?I'm not sure what GA I'll choose, really. However, I belive the two competitors are the Piper Archer II and the Cessna 206 Stationair 6 II.Both of these GAs are from Carenado.I'd like to thank everybody who contributed to this thread. And if you have any last-minute suggestions, feel free to tell me! ;)Best of Regards,Christer Fredholm
