Thought this might be interesting for those (With the money!) looking for the ultimate in vr clarity.

Love the through the lens videos. That's how I got my Rift S. Hard to stick a camera in there and not see the fresnel pattern, and get a good image, but it still shows the screen door artifacts are pretty much gone in today's headsets.  Lurv it

As a Pimax 5K+ owner, I'm supposed to be able to get a discount on this one. But ... it's probably not going to be a steep enough discount to convince my wife...

Well, here's to truth in advertising, I guess.

In this video clip, both headset displays produce blurry low-res video that would give me a headache in about 10 minutes.  Using the Pimax, it looks like it's being viewed through eyeglasses coated with Vaseline, and the Reverb looks like someone added a second coat on top of that.  Is this really the state of the art in VR??

Pimax looks acceptable to me.

What gives me a headache is 2D P3D! 😀

I don’t know what kind of settings he used in DCS but I own the HP Reverb and it’s much clearer than what he showed. It almost makes me think he had an agenda.

That's going to be a thing. He is known to be currently employed by Pimax, and people are sure to suspect shenanigans.

The fact is, even my Rift S looks better than that.

Through the lens videos have a horrible history though, and are only very rarely done in such a way as to truly represent what the human eye sees through the lens. I like his Pimax shots, but those Reverb ones are........ not believable.

There will be...... trouble.

Ok so this is biased review then? I was strongly considering jumping into the VR pool with the Reverb, but if it looks that bad I'll wait till something else comes out.

LOL, I was thinking exactly the same thing! In fact, the Pimax on the left looked like my old CV1. Anyone on the brink of getting VR, don't be put off by that video.

Come to think of it, is it even possible to successfully film the inside of a VR head set? I've not seen one yet.

I tried. It was awful, but I have seen it successfully done.

This is probably the most representative through the lens I've seen, and even this person had a lot of trouble keeping micro-movements of his hands from throwing things out of focus.

The basic flaw in making movies of VR is that they are 2D. They show nothing of the experience.

So would you gentlemen recommend a reverb?

I've not tried the Reverb but like all of these things, whoever has whatever will recommend it. I recommend the Rift S. As far as I can tell there isn't $500 worth of difference between the $400 S and the $900+ others.

2c (I've run out of change)

I own both the Reverb and the Rift S. The Reverb has a clearer display with better resolution. The Rift S has better performance because of its lower resolution but it's not that bad. The one thing you'll notice with the Rift S is the screen door effect is more noticeable. The beauty of buying these is almost everywhere has a return policy so you can try it and if it's not what you want, you can return it with no questions asked. It's is 30 days if you bought the Rift S from Amazon. If you get the Reverb I would get it directly from HP. There were problems with the first group of Reverbs that HP released. Those issues have been fixed but to make sure you get the latest version you're better off to order it from HP. Another thing is, the Oculus software for the Rift S is easier to use and more intuitive. The Reverb requires Steam VR and WMR for Steam.I also prefer the Rift controllers. I hope this helps.
