parking brake

Recommended Posts

Why didn't you guys program it to just not start pushing if the parking brake isn't released? I had a little incident today where I must have misclicked on the parking brake handle without noticing and then told the ground guy that the brakes were released which of course led to the plane performing some interesting acrobatics.

Hey die-hardman,

At a very early alpha version, there was a verification for the parking brakes, but it was disabled, so it doesn't verifies it anymore. Also, I'm not sure if in PMDG, Airbus, addon planes the parking brakes are handled same way as default?

Cheers,

Manuel

I understand it's some additional work, but would it be an option to only make this check with aircraft that either are known to use the stock variable or are known to use another variable that you can read?

I know a certain competing product whose developer must have solved this problem somehow because the product doesn't expect you to confirm the parking brake state and thus relies on reading the state itself.

So IRL if somehow the brakes are not released when the tug tries to push the plane flips around ? 🙂

Where talking about a simulation here ...

IRL, if ground asks to release the brake, and the pilot confirm that the brakes are released (but for some reason they are not), then i'm afraid someone will have to explain something in the office of the boss.

So if you confirm the brakes are released, its your responsibility, even in the simulation, just as IRL😉.

Visually check it in your cockpit, simple as that.

If you screw things up, well lessons learned and better next time...

What's your point exactly? What will happen in real life if you don't release the parking brake? Maybe an accident will happen if the driver isn't very careful, but it won't flip over in case of an accident.

No, but you can severely damage the nose gear.
In extreme cases, the damage is so devastating that you literally rip it off.

I mean seriously some tugs have the strength to lift a fully loaded A380 and then push it. Now imagine the force behind that engine.
