Thinking of purchasing rudder pedals for V4

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm thinking of purchasing some rudder pedals for Prepar3D V4. With regards to setting them up I quite like steering the aircraft on the ground with my joystick by twisting it. Would this still be possible if I get rudder pedals? I think I’d struggle taxiing with the rudder pedals. Ideally I’d like to just leave my joystick configuration as it is and just use the pedals for braking and control of the rudder. Would that be possible?

Many thanks,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

You can have both your twist grip and the pedals assigned to the rudder axis at the same time. However, the issue I foresee with this configuration is the way the joystick is torqued or twisted almost uncontrollably when moving left or right in a banked turn. You would be moving the rudder yaw axis simultaneously with the pedals and the twist grip...it could be more confusing then just using the pedals.

My experience with using pedals for ground is that there is some practice involved but you would get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Hope this helps.

Yup, Learn how to steer with the pedals on the ground like a real aircraft.  My CH pedals are over 10 years old, used almost daily, and have never given me any problems.

A "real aircraft" has a tiller and hydraulic nosewheel steering.  Just sayin'...  😜

For the OP--if you have FSUIPC, you can assign the twist axis to the steering tiller and have both blend together without the potential conflicts arising from two controller axes assigned to the rudder.

Wow, all the real aircraft I have flown, Cessnas, and Pipers, neither had a tiller or hydraulic steering. No wonder I passed my PPL exam. 🤨

Those are airplanes?  I always thought of them as FOD!  😋

If it doesn't have a coffee maker it isn't a real airplane. 😉

That's what most airline pilots told me when I was flying only gliders...many decades ago.

Today Cessnas, and Pipers always has 2 coffee maker in the cockpit as standard when it being delivered. If you need you can have 3 more coffee maker in the cockpit when you order the A/C from the seller/factory.

I just received my TPR's last week, love 'em. I'm a PPL and fly light singles only and these things feel the best out of all of them for under $1,000.

I’ve had CH Pedals for years and they still work. When they give up the ghost I’ll get the TPR pedals.

Incidentally, what is an airplane? It’s either an aeroplane or an aircraft. 😉

That's new to me. Didn't know that (all?) dictionaries are wrong.
