LOD Radius

Recommended Posts

I received an email from Megascenery containing a tip for increasing the LOD Radius (default 5.5 in P3dV4.5). has anyone else received this email and tried out the suggestion?

Thanks for any responses.

Havent seen this. Is it related to textures EXP=10 in p3d.cfg ?

The mailing clearly states this mailing is for FSX only, not P3D. Quoting from the mailing:  "5. This will also work with FSX Steam BUT for Prepar3D there appears to be a limitation in Prepar3D where a value higher than 6.5 is ignored. We are still researching this. The advice given above is only for FSX and FSX:Steam Edition."

Yes the config will always default back to 6.5 when tweaked to modify it higher. I believe this setting controls the level of detail setting based on distance for texture and mesh resolution.

I don’t think it’s directly related to the texture exp setting. My guess is textures will be sharper overall with a setting of 10 but the LOD will still decrease sharpness over distance. It’s just that the baseline is a higher sharpness.

I don’t think anyone recommends that setting on most of today’s hardware if not for performance impacts, load time.

The LOD will only change after manual editing if you make a change in the Graphics UI in P3D. Otherwise, it remains as edited.
