Just want a perfect tutorial

Recommended Posts

Hey, I was researching online that how to run some of the software of P3D on a secondary PC & I did found some posts on AVSIM in which people did say they run some softwares of P3D on a secondary PC to get some load off their main PC. So I tried looking online how can we do it, but I could not find anything. The softwares that I have are:

Active Sky for P3Dv4, REX Sky Force 3D for P3Dv4, PRO ATC X, Project Fly, Vpilot. I just want to offload whatever these softwares can be offloaded from my main PC. I need a tutorial how can we do it. Please post some pictures or video. Thanks.

Active Sky works and if i remember corectly, you will find info in the manual.

REX SF3D does not work on 2nd PC.

Not worth running any weather program on a second PC as its footprint is so low. Updates of wx every 15 mins are hardly taxing. I don’t have any of the others so can’t comment.

I do run Radar Contact separately and that requires WideFS but it’s done to keep the sound separate from P3D and with an interface that doesn’t spoil the VC cockpit rather than for performance purposes. With modern fast CPUs there isn’t much of a hit.

I agree with Ray.  I was headed down the path of setting up a 2nd machine.  Then after reading I decided no performance to be gained.  Just more of a hassle to be had.

A second machine is useful if you have a spare one. I’ve downgraded my flying PC to secondary use for many years as it extends its life. A 3Gb cutting edge graphics card 6 years ago is now useful for photo editing and running EFB / Little Navmap plus RC4. The associated monitor - a 27” 2560*1440 display has a lot of available space for all three programs.

A modest i5 CPU / 3Gb graphics card doesn’t cost that much and with either SimConnect or WideFS will run those programs. I also use it for other purposes so can justify it.

Setting up in a home network is easy.

Google network pc..Then get active sky going. There is a lot of info on their web site.Once you get AS going other apps you want to put on the second pc should be easy.

But now I have AS on my main pc. Like Ray said the footprint is low.

I would think the developers would give insight on how to set up on a 2nd PC.  Fer example, I have a 14" 16x9 display that I use for my gauges that I can change on the fly be it a GA or a heavy.  Instructions came from the developer.  I also offload my moving map and Super Traffic Board.  It Helps.

Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit

Although you won't get much of a performance gain from running ActiveSky on a remote PC, it is still quite handy to be able to pull it up and work with it away from the running sim and without bothering the sim display.  I have run it for years that way...any of my ancillary programs that might require user interaction are run that way on my secondary remote PC--weather, ATC, EFB.moving map etc.  ASP4 has fairly complete instructions on how to set it up starting at page 96 of the manual.

Programs that use FSUIPC to interface with the sim (like Radar Contact) can be run on a remote PC just like they were on the same machine using WideFS on the remote machine.

I don't know of any comprehensive tutorial on setting remote applications up.  Each one is a little different.

Bob, I can understand the attraction of that setup. In my case I run with real-time wx so once I have checked AS has the correct day and time I leave it minimised. I suppose if you want to load specialist weather then a separate display is better.

That, and also being able to get wind aloft data for flight level changes, wx for divert options etc.
