September 19, 200619 yr Well,I got the beta FSUIPC to run ActiveSky 6 through WideClient and all I can say is that it's GREAT! You should ALL be happy with the feeling of cloud layers & visibility with the coming of FSX with ActiveSky. Since this is the last released version of Activesky, I'm sure a version tailored for FSX will be even better. You still have the shortcoming of the default rotating/billboard clouds up close but OVERALL it's a LOT better feeling with multiple layers. I went up to 40,000 feet and back down and there was no rapid visibility jump. You just get a normal transition through the bottom overcast layer to the current visibility. Looking forward to the final!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156648.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156649.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156650.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156651.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156652.jpg
September 19, 200619 yr Glad someone got something goin allready with FSX. Sure would be helpfull to the rest of us though if along with comments and or screenshots the persons PC specs could be posted as well as settings withing FSX. Thanks in advance. Craig
September 19, 200619 yr Did you change any of the recommended ASv6 Options specifically for use with FSX? In other words, FS9 Haze layer on or off? Graduated visibility on or off? Etc... Thanks for helping us get a head start. ASv6 on WideFS and my FSGensis mesh are the first two things I want to merge into FSX on Oct. 17. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
September 19, 200619 yr Sorry about that Craig. Here are my PC specs:Pentium D 805 - running at 3.8GHZ (watercooled)ABIT AW8D2GB Mushkin DDR2800Soundblaster X-Fi audio3 - 300GB SATA 7200RPMAs far as ActiveSky, these are my settings:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156694.jpgNow as far as FSX Settings, I went through ALL setting combinations and took screenshots and differences when I adjusted just one. I WAS going to create a little tuning thread and show what was changing but it would be more like a tuning tool. What I present below are the settings that EVERYONE should try since it gives great visuals and good frame rates. Although I enjoy cars and boats and REALLY wanted them since we had the lights in FS2000 I can live without them for a smoother experience for now.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156698.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156699.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156700.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156701.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156702.jpg
September 19, 200619 yr Thanks for the post Carmine I'm sure it will help a lot of us if only as a starting point. As you have posted cloud shots does the aircraft fly into clouds when in spot view or is aircraft always 'in front' of the clouds regardless of cloud thickness and spot view distance/I'm almost sure in either FS98 or FS2000 the aircraft would disapppear into cloud when in spot view. Thanks
September 19, 200619 yr Hello Vulcan,Unfortunately, we still don't have engulfing clouds which has been at the top of my list. But flying from the VC, the visuals are better on the cloud systems to me.
September 19, 200619 yr Are the clouds still a huge hit on performance with the FSX engine, or has this been improved as well? Thanks.
September 19, 200619 yr Thanks. BTW, if FSX is anything like FS9, while running ActiveSky, you should turn-off all weather settings within FSX. Also, trying running the above with "FS9 Haze Layer" turned off. This way, ActiveSky creates the low-visibility layer, not FS9 (or FSX I guess). My two cents worth for the day... September 19, 200619 yr This is great to hear (and see!). I'm really missing my AS6 clouds and sky in the FSX beta, can't wait until a fully updated version comes out after the FSX release.
September 19, 200619 yr Hi All,Please notice that Carmine has moved many sliders TO THE LEFT even with his POWERFUL computer. This is going to be issue NUMBER ONE starting around October 17th! You cannot go too far right and expect a performance that is acceptable.Carmine, did you keep your FS04 installation and force a dual install of ASv6 or is FS04 gone for you, and you did a fresh install of ASv6 into FSX?Thanks All,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

September 20, 200619 yr Jim,I'm getting very smooth frames with an 3.4 P4 (Dell). I have auto gen turned off because the scenery looks better to me. I do have everything else mid way or better except water which is low2. Also, the FSX FSUICP allows me to use FSMoving Map and FS Realtime without any additional tweaking on the client PC. I do get stuttering while ASV6 is updating stations, but I'm sure that will be cleaned up by the release date. Bob... Bob Prince
September 20, 200619 yr Hey Jim, I put FS2004 back in for a comparison by defaults and there is NO WAY I would go back to FS2004 even with all the addons I had. As far as ASv6, that has been running on a 2nd computer for a long time. Didn't touch anything with that so it's the same through WideFS as is was for 2004. The NEAT thing I do like with the new FSUIPC is that WideFS & GPSOUT are "BOTH" included. I have my moving map sectionls back on 1 computer and ActiveSky on another PC as well as FSX on my "MAIN" PC.
