RXP GNS 530 not working after install (resolved)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

just installed the RXP GNS530, after a re-install of P3DV4.5 HF2. And ... it does not work.

The install goes well, I get the RXP directory in Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons with the add-on.xml file, I get files installed in Program Files (x86)\Reality XP, and the Garmin GNS trainer get installed. In the sim I see the RXP add-on menu.

After configuring the GPS of the A2A C172 (A2A configurator), a 530 Bezel is shown in the sim, but it is inactive. Black screen and I cannot switch it on, pressing the button does not do anything.

Trying configuring a pop-up window in a stock aircraft via the in-sim add-on menu does not work neither. The configuration runs well, but no GPS window shows up when pressing the shift + number key...

If it helps to undersand the problem : running the Garmin trainer standalone programm (G530SIM.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS Trainer\GNS) is no success : I can click the buttons but the GPS unit does not turn on.

Thanks for help,

Cheers

Vvince

Hi,

the GNS won't run standalone and this is expected.

As always: what is the content of the RXP log files? (see manual for file/path).

You're definitely not having reinstalled the RXP GNS successfully otherwise the first 3 numbers would be the same (2.4.15)

I'd suggest you reinstall the RXP GNS with the e-commerce installer and cross check the file versions match in the log file the next time you run P3D4

Hello,

after several unsuccessful attempts of uninstalling - reinstalling from the e-commerce installer (as administrator, AV off), the nth one finally finally worked (without me knowing why this one...)

New log files have been created, with

19/11/10 19:24:54.013 10012 -    ] # rxpGNS2.dll version 2.4.15.3

19/11/10 19:24:52.450 12296 -    ] # rxpGNS2_menu.dll version 2.4.15.3

19/11/10 19:24:55.998 10012 -    ] # rxpGnsSim64.dll version 2.4.15.0

The version number is not identical for all three, but the three first numbers are the same, so I suppose this is how it should be now and the issue is solved? Please let me know if it is not the case.

Thank you very much for your help, I can start enjoying again navigating with the great RXP GNS530!

Cheers

Vvince

Hi,

yes the first three are the same (2.4.15.##) and this is what matters most.

I'm curious what went wrong when reinstalling which finally went well though, in case this helps other customers having the same difficulties in the future.

Well, I guess I posted to fast...

It worked once, after install, and now does not work anymore : same as in first post. Crazy...

Only one log file get created (rxpGNS2_menu.dll.log) and only when I attempt configure a popup window in game. If I don't, no log file get created.

So I guess that the problem was not with the install in the first place. The two log files ( rxpGNS2.gau.log  and  rxpGnsSim.dll.log) with the wrong version number (see my second post) were probably leftovers from a previous, older install.

Since it worked once, it probably means that the file installed are OK, and I have no idea what to try next...

Here is the log file, in case

rxpGNS2_menu.dll.log :

19/11/11 19:43:36.113 06712 -    ] # rxpGNS2_menu.dll version 2.4.15.3
19/11/11 19:43:36.222 06712 INFO ] edit panel: J:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Airplanes\Piper_J3Cub\panel\panel.cfg
19/11/11 19:44:15.145 13328 INFO ]
19/11/11 19:44:15.456 13328 INFO ] edit panel: J:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Airplanes\Piper_J3Cub\panel\panel.cfg

Hi,

Log files are created only when the components run, otherwise, they won't. Your report is indicated the simulator is not even loading the gauge file (rxpGNS2.dll).

The GNS V2 uses the add-on method to get registered and detected with P3D4. I'd suggest you review the RXP GNS User's Manual troubleshooting section for solutions with this (if this is the reason it doesn't work).

Otherwise you might want to cross-check your anti-virus for any rxp quarantined file.
