AI Traffic - file/install orgainzation

Recommended Posts

Guest drmweaver2

Okay guys... I know this has certainly been discussed before, but the depth of these forums and the number of posts is daunting both to search and read. So, at the risk of rehashing old threads, what is the most sage advice I can have on how to "organize"/install AI aircraft. That is, do I just toss them all into the ADD-ON Scenery folder and that's that... or can or should I make individual folders for each airline livery?I assume that FS9 can read-down into sub0directories, but I don't know how to make it do so if it's not automatic.I've only made a couple of successful AI traffic flightplans, so you're talking with a novice here... medium to detailed answers will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Aircraft folders won't work in subdirectories (like scenery does). It all needs to go in "Aircraft".I have all my planes running by type eg:AI 737-400AI 737-500 etc.. maybe 3 or 4 dozen different types.Within these you can stack as many textures variations as you want on that AI model. This all is indepentent to the flightplans, they just call the relevant plane from the TITLE= line in the aircraft.cfgSo set up your AI planes installed first then create your flightplans using MRAI or WorldOfAI.

K. Thanks for the reply... Seems like that might get a bit crowded and "messy", but if that's the way it works, that's the way it works! :(Um, what is MRAI? First I've heard of it.

Hi John,If you want to add AI with random generated routing, there is a very good program called GA Traffic by Markus Brunner. Just search for ga-traffic_setup.zip in the Avsim library. I have used this program for years and it is the best. (Thanks Markus!)

I really appreciate the responses.. good ideas all.. The ai_traffic aspect of this has really grabbed hold of me and I find that one f "the issues" is TMI (too much information).. Ha!Consequently, as a result of information overload, I am getting kinda scatter-brained about this --- been to the WOAI, Project_AI and AI Aardvark sites already.. Way too much to look at, read and digest in a short period of time. :(Anyway, thanks again..

You will get it figured out - and be surprised by how much you learn.Start with AI packages from World of AI, and Project AI - if both sites have the same airline - use the newer one.Notice how they set up their aircraft into folders that begin with the group name. Extremely useful for keeping aircraft separate. Also be aware that the AIA B734 and the PAI B734 are different models and configurations - and must be in separate folders. The lights and contact points for one aircraft will be wrong if you try to combine them. The only thing I would strongly urge is that you setup the PAI packages with a couple custom options. Always select the box to make the AI aircraft invisible in the Select Aircraft window. Also always use a custom install option and install each airline in an individual traffic file using the airline name - not the ICAO code. That will make updating an airline so much easier in the future.

John,I would strongly recommend sticking with Aardvark, Evolve, FSPainter, CDAI, and Fernando Martinez models. They are by far the best looking AI aircraft and as an added bonus have the best frame rates also. The World of AI packages use these. When you feel a little more confident, you can start looking for flight plans in the library or specialist sites to compile. My first foray into AI started with Ultimate Traffic which gave me a huge base of traffic. As I grew more knowledgable about AI I started replacing models with those mentioned above. Now, I have UT flying the more esoteric airlines, and use separate traffic files for others.Cheers,Todd

Just wanted to say thanks for the encouragement and pointers. After a few false starts, I have all of the PAI and WOAI USA AI traffic loaded and working. I also have a few of the other major world carriers going... KLM, Lufthansa, JAL, etc. just to add flavor. It's definitely a learning curve made much easier by all these forums and people who have posted about their problems and experiences. And I;ve come to realize that we all run what are essentially unique systems - hardware, software and AI environment. So, huzzah to us all... and to you guys moving on to FSX, good luck. I think I'll stay and play with FS9 for at least six months while I figure out the rest of this stuff. ;P
