New To FS2004 & Looking for Aircraft

Recommended Posts

Guest kilkus

Hello everybody.Firstly, I'm not sure if this is in the right part of the forum, so if it isn't, then I apologise in advance.I've been into Aircraft for years now. I still go to London Heathrow Airport now and then to take down the Aircraft numbers etc... But I finaly decided to get into the world of simming.I've been playing on FS2004 for a few weeks and I'm starting to get the hang of it... I'm looking for some help with two things though.Firstly, I'm looking to add more traffic to the airport. Not so much of the default Airlines, more real-life Airlines like 'Alitalia' etc. Is there anyway that this can be done?Secondly, I'm after some more Aircraft to fly apart from the default ones already in FS2004. I'm not to good with computers so are there any Aircraft which come with the Panel, Sound, Lights, Textures etc aready in the file? Like a 'full packaged' Aircraft so I don't have to spend too much time messing about with different files etc. I'm into Commercial Passenger Aircraft. I've had a look on the File Libary but I'm not too sure what I'm looking for... Is there any 'full packaged' Aircraft which you can recommend?I also apologise if this has been asked before! If so, just point me to the right Forum where someone has already asked these questions and I'll try and figure this stuff out for myself...Thank you very much for the help!Kind regards, -Sam.

GEE WHIZ, Guys!! I think he said he was fairly new to simming, so I'm not understanding why so many recommendations for payware without equal time for "FREEWARE Til You Learn" stuff??Hi, Sam, and welcome to the party. You said that your are looking to add more traffic to the airport? Okay, I can't think of a better website that www.projectai.com to start with. you can get a vast amout of airline packages there and an automatic installer to make filling up an airport quick and painless for a "newbie". You can also get a vast amount of knowlege and help from the forum there as well as AFCADS which will provide more realistic parking and loads of gates. they also have a tools to remove the default aircraft if you desire. Go look!:-) But be aware that PAI Aircraft are not not always the most framerate friendly AI aircraft available. You will eventually think about changing the plane to those made by others like AI Ardvark,EvoleAi, CDAI, And others. But that is a whole different addiction. Best advice...Read. There are numerous tutorials out there to help ease your pain:-)There are numerous "packages" out there which not only have the aircraft , but the panel and sounds. AVSIMS is full of them. There are other sites as well, but I'm partial:-) But if I make make a suggestion to you , go into the library here and search for "Flight Sim Handy Center" (FSHC.zip) It is a lttle file that will give you all kinds of information and sites to get particular stuff you need. I don't remember who made it but I thank him/her for doing it. it comes in handy all the time. Trust me...you want it:-)You don't have to limit your self to package deals for your aircraft for lack of computer skills. There are people in this community playingthis game/sim who are genius types. Somebody knows the answer to your question or can point you to it. I suggest that you go to the library and get "Flight Sim Manager 2.8.5" (FMS285.zip)by Rana Hossain. It will handle alot of your installing chores for you among other items. With it you can download the plane you want, the panel you want, the sound you want and let the program do the dirty work as you learn to do it yourself. You will learn to do it yourself:-) You like Alitalia...Go get it! Get it and make it what you want. You already have the skill if you use the tools somebody has already made for us.Finally, read every "tips&tricks* by David "opa" Marshall. There are about 1000 of them....Okay...Maybe 22 of them. Lot of information for beginners to pros. they are in the library. He is not the only authority but he spends his time pointing you to authorities. For right now you can have most everything you need for free and some freeware is better than some payware. I am not against payware stuff. I have payware stuff. But you have to be careful with your hobby dollars. Learn what you want from this hobby. It's too broad and addicting of a hobby to leap into without experimentation and expierience. Heck!!! It made me buy a new computer just to have better performance and storage for downloads!!! AND...I'm still not satisfied!!!!:-) Breathe!!! Be Patient!!! Read!!! Experiment!!! And most important...ENJOY!!!!!!Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)

But if you feel to make the step into payware, you should read the product reviews here at Avsim very careful before you make up your mind. ;-)http://www.scandicair.com/images/sa_banner.gifFSX..?? Yes, I was wondering the same thing, seeing it as saying something about where the hobby is going.Certainly, there has never been as many offerings either free or payware available for the hobby. I think it's wonderful how it is all coming together, and that there is room for both, and that it is a good thing both are available, and that in a way there is competition between the two that is good for both.In my mind, I wouldn't propose either way that a person choose to go payware or freeware. It is up to the person how they want to invest their time and money. For me, I've found that a combination works best for me. I could not do without Ultimate terrain, and believe I will want it even for FSX. Water, roads, terrain (mesh, not part of UT I know), and landmarks are very important to me. But I love the freeware aircraft and scenery, too. And see it as my duty to add to the community as well (speaking of which, I recently released new versions of some of the scenery I've done on my website). And certainly along with Milton Shupe's, Long Island Classics, and too many other freeware authors to list, there are several excellent payware aircraft, too.I do think going forward, that a freeware component is extremely important to keeping our addiction alive. A cost of entry of zero will attract many people to the hobby. But I also believe that we will see more payware than ever going forward. And that's a good thing, as quality will surely increase, and will filter over to the freeware.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)
