Updated GTN750 Won't Capture GPS Course (resolved)

Recommended Posts

I am using P3Dv4.5HF2 and just updated to the latest version of the GTN750. I have now tried 3 different a/c, all of which have the GTN installed in the panel, and none of them are capturing the GPS course. The HSI CDI responds as expected, the HSI course arrow points to the desired course, the GTN is in GPS mode, the AP is on in NAV mode, but the a/c does not turn to the GPS course as the CDI centers. The previous GTN 750 version worked fine. What am I forgetting after updating the GTN? My settings are below.

Thx,

Al

Hi,

can you please post the content of the RXP log files? (see User's Manual for file/path)

Hi, this explains better (at least to us!)

It seems there is a problem with the code running on your system, 'somehow'.

Why do you run P3D4 as admin? This isn't needed at all and in fact may be the root cause of many other problems (you can search the RXP forums for my explanations in different discussions). One of the most dangerous thing you can face is a bug in an add-on trying to delete all its configuration files, something like "delete "C:\ProgramData\AddonName\Config\*.*" but because of a bug it ends up doing this instead: "delete C:\*.*". I let you imagine what a program running with full admin privilege can do in this case...

Nevertheless, we'll have a closer look to this and report back in this discussion for further tests in order to solve this.

Can you please post in the meantime your RealityXP.GTN.ini file for us to cross-check what settings are live?

Also can you please try running the simulator not as-admin and see how it goes?

Ran the sim not as admin, but got the same results.

Thank you.

Can you please disable both Shadin computers and compare?

Then enable Shadin Air Data only, then Shadin Fuel only, then both, and see if any of these is the culprit.

Besides, where are you located when loading the aircraft (what airport the aircraft is)? Is this still crashing if you start from another airport?

I disabled both Shadin computers but it did not help.

I moved from KCOS (Colorado Springs, CO) to KPUB (Pubelo, CO) but it did not help.

I then uninstalled the new GTN version using Win10 Programs and Features, and reinstalled the previous version. That DID work, the GTN captured the GPS course. I then uninstalled the previous version, reinstalled the new version again, and that did NOT work -- didn't capture the GPS course.

One curious thing is after I uninstalled the new version and reinstalled the previous ver, the GTN750 startup screen still indicated ver 2.5.21. But when I checked using the configuration panel for updates, it did say I was using ver 2.5.20.3 and a new update was available, so I assume the GTN startup screen was in error (probably something did not get fully uninstalled when I uninstalled the new version).  Win10 Program and Features listed the previous version size as 49.9MB and the new version size as 51.8MB, so I do think I was working with two different versions despite what the GTN startup screen showed.

I am having the same issue.  Since I upgraded to the latest 750 version the 750 will not capture GPS course.  I run P3D4.5 with HF.  The 750 worked fine before the upgrade.  I have checked the configuration files and found nothing odd.  Head hold works, altitude hold works, speed hold works, just will not capture GPS course to support Autopilot function.

Ok this might explain some of the problems you're having.

The version number displayed in the device is the version of the GTN simulation component (rxpGtnSim.dll) whereas the version checked with he "Check Updates..." is the version of the gauge file.

We're usually updating both at the same time with the same first 3 numbers (like 2.5.21.x)

So when you've uninstalled the product it didn't uninstall the core simulation component but the it did uninstall the gauge file. Installing the older version didn't replace the core component with an older one because the one on your drive is newer.

The truth is always held in the log files in which the first line tells what version is the which:

19/11/12 19:00:10.236 05456 -    ] # rxpGtnSim64.dll version 2.5.21.0

this is the core component in C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\

19/11/02 02:37:50.226 07768 -    ] # rxpGTN_menu.dll version 2.5.20.3

this is the product menu handler and panel assistant (an add-on dll).
It is referenced by the add-on.xml in "My Documents\P3D4 Add-Ons"

Note: this shows installing the latest update didn't installed the updated menu dll on your system though.

19/11/12 19:00:07.224 05456 -    ] # rxpGTN.dll version 2.5.21.0

this is the gauge file dll also referenced by the add-on.xml file.

So after installing the previous version these should show rxpGtnSim64.dll version 2.5.20.3, rxpGTN_menu version 2.5.20.3 and rxpGTN.dll version 2.5.20.3 (or .2 for some of these). Can you confirm this is what the log files show now?

@DannyR Hi, please post the content of the RXP log files.

After again uninstalling the new version and re-installing the previous version just now the log files show:

rxpGtnSim64.dll version 2.5.21.0          (version doesn't match the two below; apparently is not being removed by the uninstall process and so not replaced by the older version. Is Win10 Program and Features the best way to uninstall a GTN version?)

rxpGTN.dll version 2.5.20.3

rxpGTN_menu.dll  version 2.5.20.3    (this apparently isn't getting updated at all, the explorer file listing shows the date 1Nov2019 ! )

The first two above although showing different versions, are being updated -- the update date and time are correct. But the menu dll apparently isn't being updated at all based on the date shown in the file explorer listing. And I have confirmed again this previous version does capture the GPS course even though the rxpGtnSim64.dll version is 2.5.21.0 and not 2.5.20.3.

@ark I'm sorry I should have asked you to let me know the actual files versions on the disk.

Can you please let me know what they are for:

C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\rxpGtnSim32.dll
C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\rxpGtnSim64.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GTN Simulation\FltSim\32\rxpGTN.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GTN Simulation\FltSim\64\rxpGTN.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GTN Simulation\FltSim\32\rxpGTN_menu.dll

C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GTN Simulation\FltSim\64\rxpGTN_menu.dll

Right click each file > Properties > Details

PS: the menu log file shows 2.5.20.3 because the last time you've run it was on November 19th at 02:37 UTC.
