NEW Build for P3D & MSFS?

Hello All!

I am looking to build a new PC for P3D and specially for MSFS 20. I know we don't have all the details for MSFS 20, however, I don't see why it wouldn't run fine with the latest hardware. Also, I do have a 4K monitor, so this will be for 4K.

 

First question, which CPU? 9700k, 9900K or 9900KS? I will be keeping my 1080TI from my old build, so let's keep this in mind. 

 

Second, thoughts on the specs below? 

CASE: NZXT H510 (White)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 1080TI - My current GPU

CPU: ?

CPU COOLING: NZXT Kraken X52

MOTHERBOARD: MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 32GB 3200MHz

SSD: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB

POWER: Seasonic Focus Plus 650W Gold

Everyone is asking about this.  We don't know the system specs.... and I doubt the alpha is even out yet for the new sim.

I'd wait a while to build.... (that's my plan)

Right, I get that, however, my PC is 5 years old and it's really bottlenecking.

Le Francais I am in the same position. I also have an i7 4770K (4.3GHz), 1080ti and 16GB ram and I have been considering my options.

Like you I intend to keep my 1080ti. I don't think you could go wrong with an i9 9900K or KS. To get the features shown in the MSFS YouTube videos I can only assume that the code is much better optimised and that it uses multithreading architecture to it's full potential. There would certainly be improvements in P3D too as our CPU's are now quite old, as is the mobo and ram architecture.

Interesting and probably expensive times ahead. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I believe you can assume any system capable of running P3D v4 will be more than adequate for MSFS 2020. I think the stock MSFS will be less demanding than P3D. As 'study' level aircraft are added to MSFS, the CPU will be taxed more, but again, probably not to the extent of P3D.

Currently, a CPU with single thread capability greater than 4 GHZ should be fine. There is a trap in thinking you need the fastest CPU. 5 GHZ is only a 20% increase. That may not be enough to justify a new CPU + motherboard. If having the fastest system is part of your hobby enjoyment, then go ahead and splurge. 🙂

Also, MSFS 2020 is planned to be DirectX 11 initially. So any card with P3D v4 viability should be good. I would recommend 6 GB or more video memory.

MSFS may make more use of system memory. XPlane already does best with 32 GB. Certainly if you multi-task during flights, then 32 GB would be best. And again, the speed of the memory may be not as important an issue, unless again you desire the fastest system on the block.

I think an SSD may be of use in both sims. It will cut load times at startup, and for scenery updates during flight. Again, the 'slower' SSDs are many times faster than any hard drive. Do you need the fastest? Depends on your desire for system speed, not so much on whether the sim will require it.

I think going forward, we'll still have issues with stutters, and a yearning for ever greater FPS with loaded down systems. I think we'll still need sliders to limit either sim's detail.

It does pretty well.  If you run tons of addons every CPU will bog down a little.

I guess if if you have to buy now....9900KS / keep your GPU / 32GB fast RAM

Generally speaking mobos don't make a whole lot of difference. The pricier boards naturally include more bells and whistles (probably rarely, if ever, used by the majority of users) plus better quality components. That Strix board should do you nicely. One important factor sometimes overlooked are the VRMs and their cooling especially when overclocking. Some boards do a better job than others.And yes. Build it yourself, assuming you have the necessary skills/experience. 👍

Thanks, one more question. I have heard a lot of people saying to go with the latest AMD ryzen 9 3900x. Thoughts on that?

I don't have any experience... I heard the latest gen Ryzen was pretty good as well.

Yes it will, Im  sure. There is no benefit to MS to require  NASA spec hardware, they not stupid

Seriously 9900ks is big word not allowed better 9900kf with overclock ... if you want to drop your money by window buy KS 

And you need to know PS5 and xbox will be based on RYZEN 8 Cores !

 

Ne gâche pas ton argent il n'y a que les américains pour acheter des 9900ks des vrais pigeons ceux là .Soit 9900kf ou ryzen 3900x ou alors attend les comet lake qui sortent dans pas longtemps ...

The answer to this question is the same as it's always been: buy the fastest CPU you can afford.  Today, that means a 9900ks.  The 9900k isn't far behind, so that's a decent option if you can't find a ks.
