A hidden secret of Pearl Harbor... "The USS Arizona Memorial Tour" Though only open to Military(Active/Reserve/Retired). It is given by Commander, US Pacific Fleet. The tour takes you in a counterclock wise circle of Ford Island. Passing the 3 memorials and three museums at Pearl...Leaving the boathouse...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1158.jpgArtsy shot...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1161.jpgThe mothball Fleet...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1171.jpgThe USS Utah Memorial (only accessable to Military(Active/Reserve/Retired). The USS Nevada was the only ship to get underway on Dec 7 though barely, As they approached the mouth of Pearl Harbor, it was determined they were going to go down. Instead of allowing the ship to sink in the mouth, causing a Pearl Harbor to be shut off from the Pacific Ocean they beached the ship where the Memorial stands. The day we did the tour they were burying a survior of the USS Nevada and Dec 7th. in the Harbor, at the Memorial, which explains the Flag at half-mast, and the Color Guard...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1173.jpgThe Battleship Missouri and USS Arizona Memorial...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dcp_1098.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1183.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1187.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1186.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dcp_1106.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1196.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dcp_1109.jpgThis is the "Remembrance" The barge our tour is on...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dcp_1119.jpg[/img]Returing to the boathouse under the Admiral Cleary Bridge...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1217.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1218.jpgComing back into the boathouse next to the Admiral's Barge...http://808altimas.net/PHT/Dscn1224.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dcp_1077.jpghttp://808altimas.net/PHT/Dcp_1075.jpghttp://publish.hometown.aol.com/p3superb/i...s/sign_name.jpghttp://publish.hometown.aol.com/p3superb/i...s/sign_name.jpg

Thanks, good pictures.Still,a very somber sight. In our times we have the tragic picture of the "THE TOWERS". Strange, one event triggered the great WW2.with ferocious pursuit and finality. The other ,well far less intense,I believe, in the Nations response.I not alluding to anything political, just the apparent apathy by many,to the "TOWERS". There were more losses that day than any other attack on the US.The memorial shown at Pearl Harbor,is a national shrine.Compare that reverence to the recently proposed memorial planned for ground zero, with its not so veiled anti-American theme. Those strong, objections to that, were from the survivors ,however many agree with them. Thanks again, these pics are worth keeping. VIN
