ORBx EGPH Edinburgh Airport P3Dv4

One of the reasons that I decided to purchase the ORBx version of Edinburgh airport is because it has the extended apron around Stands 15/16/17/18 that are used by some of the "Heavy" jets that are starting to fly in and out on a regular basis. Another reason is that past ORBx airports/airfields that I have purchased have had lots of interesting details, and high resolution textures throughout. Granted that Edinburgh is a bigger airport than say (for example) Southampton, but (IMO) there is never an excuse for using low resolution textures.

So for someone who already owns UK2000 Edinbugh and looking to get the Orbx version, do you all recommend to pass at this time? From what I read in this topic it does not look all that good.

I guess what speaks for the Orbx version is that it will most likely blend well with the upcoming True Earth North Product from Orbx.

I have disabled ORBx Edinburgh for the moment. Apparently, an update will be released in January 2020 with fixes for (hopefully all) the issues mentioned in this thread and elsewhere. As stated in the post above yours, one of the reasons that I purchased the ORBx version of the airport was to have the extended apron for heavy jets around Gates 15/16./17/18, but I have modified a couple of gates in the UK2000 Edinburgh Xtreme AFD file to accommodate the Emirates/Qatar/Hainan Airlines heavies. Not a perfect solution, but it will have to do for now until these issues have been addressed.

UK2000 has also announced an evolution (similar to their recent Bristol overhaul) of their Edinburgh for 2020 along with East Midlands 2020 HD and some other of their airports. Could be worth it to wait for this version and the upgrade price before jumping on the ORBX one. I was very thrilled when ORBX announced EGPH but the screenshots somehow killed my enthusiasm. Not sure what it is but their recent British airports look a tad generic. But I might be simply used to the style of Gary's UK2000 rendition. IMHO better save your money for the stunning looking ESGG Gothenburg if you want to add a new ORBX product to your collection and wait a bit with Edinburgh.

I´ll pass for now then on Orbx Edinburgh and stick to the UK2000 version, thanks guys for the heads up! 🙂 Had it been included in the Orbx sales then perhaps it could have been worth it. I will go ahead and modify the UK2000 Edinburgh AFX file as well instead. Will actually pass on Gothenburg Airport as well (although it looks good), no fun to go flying in ones home country when there is so much else in the World to discover 🙂

I agree with your assessment, Christoph. There certainly is much more of a "generic" feel to ORBx Edinburgh than I was expecting (based on past ORBx products that I have purchased). If I had known that Gary was intending to update Edinburgh next year, I would probably not have bothered.

Whoa! I was about to buy Edinburgh at half price. Brakes on that then.

It's not even on sale (has been released too recently).

I think the problem is that Orbx has a wide range of developer talent. Some like Jarrad, Holger and Marcus are at the top-end, whereas other individual developers of theirs and now GayaSimulations  appear to be at a noticeably lower standard. Let's see if the requested improvements make this EGPH worth buying next year.

I think part of the problem is that the release schedule for the UK airports appears to be rather too rapid......and that may have something to do with the shadow of a certain Microsoft Flight Simulator on the horizon. I seem to recall JV mentioning something about getting an airport built in 90 days, and that they were aiming to get this down to 60 days. Alarm bells start to ring for me when I see comments like that.

I have just completed a quick flight at UK2000 Edinburgh, and we definitely need an updated version with the new Turnhouse Apron. The airport was so full of AI planes early in the morning that an Easyjet A320 was parked at Gate 211 (one of the three large cargo ramps on the east side). I need more parking spots!!

Easy now Christopher, just bring that AI slider down a notch, problem solved! 🙂 😉Seriously though, I agree we need a new EGPH version from Gary. The only downside to his airports in my opinion is the surrounding photoreal (both Glasgow and Edinbugh in fact) are too pale compared to the Orbx Scotland colors. As I said in another thread with the upcoming TE GB North I hope you beta testers let Gary know since many of his customer will probably get TE Central and North and use as base for their UK flying.

Just wondering how you went about getting a refund ?

I've done exactly the same as you and have gone back to using UK2000 EGPH and will wait for Gary's new version - which I wasn't aware of when buying the Orbx's version.

you have to open a ticket with orbx stating why you are unhappy with egph, they will probably ask you to post on their forum with the issues you have to see if they can be fixed, but I said I was having the same issues as what was already posted and was not prepared to wait weeks on a update
