FS9 and FSX running together...?

Recommended Posts

Guest BAW843

Hi All,Just wondered how I go about keeping FS9 with all my add-ons, PMDG, Level-D, FeelThere, AS6 just to name a few and also install FSX once that has been released..?As I understand I can only install the add-ons once as they create a registry entry (right/wrong)..? what I am trying to say is can i leave FS9 as it is and install FSX but re-install add-ons to FSX, would that work, so I could use them in both? or can you only install these in effect once?CheersPHIL

Hi Jim,Thanks for your response on the AS6 side but does that mean that if I have FS9 already installed that it will not recognise FSX if I install that too? anyone else with news on the other add-ons...?I am worried that the only way around this is to completely remove FS9 and then only have FSX installed on my machine...?current add-ons:-PMDG (737, 747)LEVEL-DFEELTHERE (ERJ, 737)DREAMFLEET (727)GROUND ENVIRONMENTPSS (Airbus, 757)ThanksPHIL

Hi Phil,1. Question: Will FS9 and FSX run fine on the same system/HD?Answer: Yes, they will and there will not be any conflicts between the 2 programs. (Yes, saved flights will now be associated with FSX)2. Question: Will ASv6 work with both versions? Answer: We are working on ASv6.5 so that ASv6.5 will recognize both version of FS and be fully functional with both versions. At no time will you be required to remove FS9!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Early-on it's probably a moot point for most addons. We already know that the PMDG and Level-D aircraft won't work in FSX and I suspect that that will be the case for most other complex addons as well. It will probably be several months before the necessary FSX changes can be made but, when they are, I think that we'll be able to install most addons to either FS9 or FSX, or both.Doug

Jim,Thanks for your response!I think you have hit the nail on the head there Doug!Hopefully we will be able to install our wonderful add-ons into both versions of Flight Sim, FS9 and FSX at the same time and will be able to use them in both at any particular time, for various different reasons...Anyone else with any comments?CheersPHIL

Best thing to do is to ask at the vendor's support forum BEFORE you do anything. A lot of people will be asking the same questions, so the answer might be waiting for you there already.

Many (not all) of the add-ons rely on Peter Dowson's FSUIPC dll. As far as I know at this point in time those that do depend on FSUIPC will not work in FSX as the module will be coded differently than that used for FS9. There is also the problem with gauges as FSX will not recognize many of the older gauges. I believe you will most likley have to wait for any of the add-ons to either be upraded to work with FSX or wait for the vendor to develop a new model compatible with FSX. Since MS released the SDK early in the game I'm sure that the major add-on developers are working fast and furious to make their products either compatible through and upgrade or developing products that are FSX only. Don't expect most developers to offer uprades for free though. They're in this to make a profit too. Craig

PMDG has said they will not be patching the 737NG or the 747 for FSX. That's two reasons why FS9 will be on my system for the forseeable future.Dave FisherCYYZP4 Prescott 3.2e 478p 800mhz 1mg CPUP4P800SE Asus Motherboard2.5 gig PC3200 DDR RAM 400MHZGeforce Ti 4200/128Maxtor 80 Gig ATA 133 HD x2WDC WD800 80 Gig HDhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpghttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpghttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg

>Uh, what? We are patching (though not free) the 747 for FSX>and we're making an entirely new NG for it...Don't start flaming me for asking this, but it's a ligit question. Also, don't get me wrong I love my PMDG 737. So what your saying is I wasted my money on this now as I'll have to pay again to get it updated to FSX ?? If it's a small fee for registered user, I'm ok with that, and I fully understand you not doing something for free either. But If your charging registered users even half the cost of a new purchase, then I feel ripped off as we've all known for a long time that FSX was comming out. Just my 2 centsDan

Hey Dan, Since you said; and I quote: "we've all known for a long time that FSX was comming out"; then why did you buy it to begin with? Also, how much of a discount is Microsoft giving you for "upgrading"to FSX ? Craig
