Question for those who already have the Retail version.....

How does general performance compare to the demo/beta versions given similar location/settings etc ? Any notable improvement?

What, did you think those folks would keep silent and wouldn't speak about it unless they were asked? :)I'm sure we'll get TONS of reports in due time. Rest assured, comparisons will be made. Depending on the person, you could get a glowingly positive report even if it ran bad. You could get a horrible report even if it ran good. Biases will play into it - we're all human! Just remember to take it all at face value and don't get encouraged or discouraged by the two extremes on the end.-Greg

Hi, I am Phil Taylor and am PM for Graphics and Terrain in Aces.I wanted to talk about demo update perf vs RTM perf. The demo update just released is based on RTM bits so there should be no performance difference in the same geo-location using the new demo bits and the RTM "in-the-box" bits.Just to set expectations.PhilPS. The new demo can be found at:Englishhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/4/7...491/FSXDemo.exe Spanishhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/a/0...a5e/FSXDemo.exe Frenchhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/c/0...415/FSXDemo.exe Germanhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/8/3...b92/FSXDemo.exe Italianhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/6/4...ae6/FSXDemo.exe

Thanks Phil. I saw no notable difference on my machine between 1st and 2nd release demos so was wondering whether I could expect better performance given same settings in the retail version. I have a reasonable mid to high-end machine, so your comments are...interesting.Thanks for the update.

Hey PhilI have been trying the English link for 8 hours and cannot get connected. I started the download yesterday but it dropped to 5k for up till this morning and then disconnected. I have not been able to get a live link all day. Thanks for your inputRegardsBob

Why don't you use a download excelerator? I downloaded the whole file in less than 20 minutes.

Good to know, Phil! Now we can get serious about finding the right settings. Any tips?

BoPreyI have a download accelerator, I cannot get a connection.ThanksBob

I have to say I'm very impressed with the performance I'm getting from the Demo 2! Now I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the retail release!!I've noticed that the graphics settings really all add up, in subtle ways, to impact performance. If I take it easy on some of the settings, so that the sim still looks fantastic, I can have autogen at sparse to medium and still get exceptional performance. Naturally if I turn up all of the other settings then autogen has a much greater impact on performance, but that's to be expected.Conversely I can turn up all other settings, increase static scenery, and leave autogen off, and I get brilliant performance, and the sim still looks really good.Great job Aces!James
