Orbx kills OpenLC Asia

Recommended Posts

Quote

Well, next time ORBX makes an "official" announcement, be prepared, it can be changed down the road.

Cheers, Ed

Welcome to the games software business. Happens all the time, orbx is no different to EA, Ubisoft, MS, Dovetail and hundreds of other companies. Heck, so many announcements never end up as released products. And MS canceled Flight and shut its servers down, Dovetailed cancelled FSW.

Life goes on..

Isn't that the case with absolutely every product on market, whether digital or physical?

The problem is OpenLC is actually terrible in the full scope of things and quite out dated.  I don’t really blame Orbx for saying, yeah we aren’t doing that anymore

OpenLC is useful in a sim that has 15 year old graphics and makes those 15 year old graphics closer to 8-10 year old graphics bc well the 15 year old sim can’t handle anything else.  Throw in MSFS 2020 and the uncertainty and I surely see how it would be silly to throw money at OpenLC coverage at this point. Promised or not promised.

Orbx must be in a fascinating place right now internally.

Yeah you are right, happens all the time. On the hand, when Microsoft kills "Candy Crush in Zombieland", I feel less frustrated 😏

Most scenery developers will probably be putting a hold on new projects for Microsoft based simulators until MSFS comes out. If it is good as the hype we have been seeing, will we even need add on scenery or even a weather engine add-on for MSFS. The developers will probably focus their energy for X-plane.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.

without any SDK no developer can do nothing at the moment....

Kind of sad to see that ORBX has dropped OLC, Asia and Africa are more or less still continents we need to stick to default stuff for years....

Its obvious. The .market is going to make a major shift with 2020. We wont need a lot of the products orbx provided for us with the new sim. The 2020 world will mostly be made of photo real coverage by default, why would anyone want to use the  old style ESP based data for it?

simple: Have you check Bing around the globe? There are a lot of areas you do not want the data from Bing 😉

What a nonsense!

Orbx is perhaps the most prolific publisher of addons in the FS industry with what, 300 products on their store? Show me a full list of projects they have announced then not delivered and you will have more credibility to your claim.

Open lc and vector had their time and brought a lot to the sim but yes its actually terrible when you look at what Is coming and compare the two.

I understand that and youre right but its also being updated all the time and MS has a means of filling those gaps. Also the majority of the siming market is in North America and Europe the coverage in those areas is pretty good
