Im very close to buying a VR Set every review i watch is giving me a sense there is no obvious leader, i would  only use VR for flight sims (all platforms) and the odd racing sim when time is too tight to fly or for a change of pace, considering im in a sitting position and don't require to track my movements around a room i'm heavily leaning toward just buying a RIFT S, would this be a wise choice based on my basic needs

Depending who you buy from, most headsets have a return policy that allows you to try it and return it no questions asked. This way if the one you choose doesn't work for you, you can send it back and try something else. I own both the Rift S and the HP Reverb. The Rift S is a good headset. I really prefer the Oculus software and controllers but the reverb has better resolution.

Thank you both for your feedback, Michael is the resolution of reverb highly noticeable  or something only a VR aficionado would notice while the price point isn't too much of a concern, I'm not sure I'd get the value at twice the price although 2160x2160 res is impressive.

HP has a sale on the regular reverb (-$100) and the pro (-$80). I ordered my Reverb as an early Christmas Present and will see how game changing it is. I hope to be pleasantly surprised!

The biggest difference is the screen door effect. It is noticeable with the Rift S. It's almost completely gone with the Reverb. Another thing I forgot to mention is I like the over the ear phones on the Reverb while the Rift S sound is projected from the band. I ended up using earbuds to enhance the sound of the Rift S. Do a search on YouTube for VR Flightsim Guy. He has a number of videos which show the difference between the Rift S and Reverb.

Hopefully I'm not hijacking this thread but if I wanted to get into VR, (and taking into account the Rift S as an example), are the goggles the only thing I need or do I require any other prerequisite on the PC side?

Headset comes with everything needed including batteries, though I recommend grabbing some rechargeables. If you need glasses and get into it, you might consider prescription inserts.

It doesn't hurt to have a separate USB 3.0 card. Sometimes there can be an issue using the USB ports on the motherboard. Other than that you need the Oculus software.
