Error: LoadLibrary failed to load cdp.dll. GetLastError: 193

Recommended Posts

I need help please. I purchased the RealityXP 750 on Thanksgiving and have been trying to get it to work since then.

When I try to load the trainer OR try to use a pop up screen in P3Dv4.5 it throws Error: LoadLibrary failed to load cdp.dll. GetLastError: 193.

The screens load but they're blank. All the trainers load and work fine but the Navigator in training mode is blank and disappears when you close the error message. The trainers all work after the Navigator closes.

I have turned off my virus software for installation, made all the RealityXP folders a virus checking exemption, allowed all RealityXP programs access through Controlled Folder Access including the temp setup files and entered the DeBug script into an airplanes RXP.

There's a cdp.dll located in Windows\System32 folder(5372kb) as well as Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\bin (6245kb).

Is that the problem?

I'm not a programmer and it shouldn't be this hard to set it up. All my P3D addons worked without a hitch. I'm stumped.

Hi,

There is definitely something not right here.

1) There shouldn't be any CDP.dll file in "C:\Windows\System32" otherwise, it is not a Garmin file.

Can you please right click the file "C:\Windows\System32\cdp.dll", select properties then details and report the file version and copyright and/or any addition information?

2) Latest GTN trainer 'CDP' file is installed by default in:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GTN Trainer\GTN\sys\sim\CDP_GTN.dll"

This file size is 7,089,904 bytes.

NB: there is another CDP_GTN_Config_Mode.dll but it won't bother us

You might want to review the antivirus quarantined log files just in case any file with 'rxp' in its name, or any file related to the Garmin trainer, have been blocked.

1) Okay, here's the screenshot of the cdp.dll in windows\system32

cdpdll-info.jpg

I have already checked the Controlled Folder access and have allowed any file that has rxp or gtn or related to this program to be trusted, including a bunch of rxpGTN-FSIM-Setup.tmp files.

2) I don't have the cdp.dll file or folders listed in the same folder as you stated. Mine are:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\bin and only 6245kb

cdpdllfolder.jpg

I don't think it's going to let me copy the Garmin cdp.dll and overwrite the one in the system32 folder.

Is the cdp.dll file in the wrong directory? I checked and have the latest installer.

Is the cdp.dll file on my computer the wrong size?

I have installed and uninstalled multiple times using a registry cleaner each time and physically deleting the folders left behind. I always turn off Windows Defender virus protection before each install. I have no other virus program on this computer.

I know there must be a simple answer to fix this but I have run out of ideas and I'm not a programmer or smart enough to figure out what is wrong.

You're right and I'm sorry for the wrong folder in Program Files (x86) (this was for trainer 6.21). Yours is correct.

Please have a closer look at the information you're showing for the CDP.dll in the 'windows' folder. It is certainly not a Garmin file isn't it? So this one is not a concern.

Nevertheless, have you check your anti-virus logs despite telling it to ignore some files?

Is this by any chance Comodo? If so you might want to search the forum for 'comodo' as well because it has a known issue with the Garmin trainer.

So I checked and found that I had Comodo Backup installed so I uninstalled it.

I rebooted and had the same results.

I checked the Defender virus log and found that it was blocking rxpGTN-FSM-Setup.tmp access to User\Documents\Prepar3d v4 Add-ons\Reality XP GTN\ folder. I tried but couldn't remove that folder from Windows Controlled Folder protection.

I uninstalled both the trainers and the main program and deleted all the remaining folders.

I ran CCleaner and Wise registry cleaners and rebooted the computer.

I turned off Controlled Folders access protection and then turned off the Defender virus program.

I reinstalled the software and rebooted the computer.

Guess what .......nothing changed. The display trainers work perfectly but I still get the original error and the navigator screen is still blank. I don't even care about the trainer but the pop up screens in the aircraft are still blank too.

I'm going to uninstall the software again and wait for your reply because P3D has locked up a couple of times since I started this although I don't know if that's the reason but I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

I do appreciate everything your trying to do for me.

I just want to make sure about this. Can you please detail what you've done exactly?

Also why are you running the simulator as-admin?

This is unneeded and as a matter of fact wrong for many reasons not directly related to the issue at hand with cdp.dll, although it might be a reason too.

I followed the instructions on page 25 under Debug Settings and entered this information into one of the airplanes that I was trying to use the pop up GTN screen on. I posted the information in the first post. Here's the entry in the .ini file.

debug-instructions.jpg

As far as running as Admin, I don't recall the reasoning but I've always run it as such since v2 and never had a problem. If you think that will help I'll give it a try and let you know if it makes a difference.

Anything else I can try?

I'd suggest you just set LogTrainer = 1 and DebugValue = 0 for now.

As-admin is opening a can of worms on your computer. Not only any add-on creating a folder or a file sets 'admin' rights on it which will prevent further read/write when running as 'normal', but this will also lock applications from registry and certain paths.

Last but not least, imagine an add-on wanting to do "delete C:\add-on-name\*.*" but because of a bug do instead "delete C:\*.*"...

There is no reason to run anything as-admin unless it is an admin tool. Any add-on 'requiring' you run as admin should be uninstalled and avoided. It has been a decade long documented and developers have the necessary Win API to work with UAC properly (we do).

Furthermore, if you've installed the Garmin trainer 'as-admin' as well, it might fail.

I'd suggest you uninstall the Garmin trainer, manually delete the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\" folder.

Then just reinstall the Garmin GTN trainer and the databases as 'normal' user (just double click the installer).

Also, disabling Comodo might not be sufficient. It has deep interactions in the system with the GTN Trainer.

1) I'm no longer running P3D as admin

2) I uninstalled trainers as suggested and ran CCleaner registry cleaner, and rebooted

3) I turned off my firewall, turned off Controlled Folder access and turned off Defender virus program

4) Reinstalled trainers not as admin

5)Changed LogTrainer and DebugValue to 1 and 0 in 2 different airplanes

6) Rebooted

I never had the comodo virus software, only the backup software that I uninstalled earlier today.

There was no change in either the trainers or the sim. Neither worked. Well, the trainers have always worked but the navigator screen was still blank.

The only real difference is in the sim.dll log which is showing almost nothing verses the long error messages from before but the results are the same.

It looks like your system doesn't like the trainer very much as-is.

Few of our customers have been affected with this error when trying to run the trainer standalone and we've added more safeguards in patching the trainer code at runtime to prevent this.

You're the first posting such error since a long time which leads me to believe there must be something highly dependent on your system, 'somehow'. This makes me wondering whether the Microsoft CDP.dll file in the Windows\System32 folder is not the reason, especially if this is a system file which is supposed to be loaded only from Windows\System32 and therefore Windows refuses to load same name file from someplace else.

Otherwise, it could be a service or a 3rd party application on your system which is preventing loading this file because it is thinking it is a MSFT protected/special file.

However because it is not a widespread issue I'm afraid it will be quite difficult to assess.

I'd suggest the following:

Can you try with this pprevious trainer version and let me know how this works?

http://download.garmin.com/software/GTN_GDU620PCTrainer_6211.zip

NB: you'll have to uninstall the latest trainer in order to let the RXP GTN finding the trainer 6.21 automatically, otherwise you can manually configure the RXP GTN like indicated in the RXP GTN User's Manual (both trainer versions can install side by side but only the most recent is picked up automatically)

D/L the old trainer now.

FYI, I located no less than 6 different cdp.dll's on my  computer so deleting or renaming won't be an option.
