Military Aircraft

Recommended Posts

Has there been anything announced with regard to the military aircraft side of our hobby?

Any F-14 Tomcat or F-18? And will there be an aircraft carrier in MSFS 2020?

The F-18 is made by Boeing so I hope to see the partnership with Boeing paying out there...

And please give me a good tanker aircraft for those unbelievable moments of air to air refueling!!!

Many happy landings,

DocBird

Nothing announced yet, but I'd also love to see these appear somewhere down the road. They had an F-18 in the acceleration pack of FSX and you're right about it being a Boeing aircraft so who knows. Would be lovely to see an aircraft carrier and a tanker to do some CAP missions, no combat needed from my point of view.

There is DCS you know. Why would anybody want a military AC in FS without being able to do combat.

Would love to see a C-130 and C-17 developed. Also, how are military air bases being handled in MSFS?

What I personally would love to see is fighter jet AI traffic to populate some Swiss air force bases. Being able to provide them with personalized flight plans would be a huge bonus, maybe even using a visual waypoint indicator for precise routes. The country isn't huge.

It does happen a few times a year for me to see Swiss Air Force jets overfly civilian airports at low altitude for training purposes.

For user controlled aircraft, some training sorties or escorting civilian jet missions too!

Because I want to fly across the whole world, undertaking the full spectrum of military capabilities: global airlift; tactical airlift; air refueling of fighters across the ocean (called CORONETs); flying fighters to and from their home bases for training and proficiency; and being able to take my (hopefully) fully functioning combat aircraft to any theater or target on Earth.

I can tell you that a significant number of DCS users are interested in MSFS just for the flying. If Microsoft were to make a new version of Combat Flight Simulator, Eagle Dynamics would go out of business.

It's not realistic to fight a war in a 250nm x 250nm container. We send B-2s and B-52s on 40-hour combat missions halfway around the Earth and back, to cite one example.

I've got DCS but I don't really like the graphics beyond the cockpit. Flying military aircraft is more than using weapons. During peacetime most operations are patrols. I would love to be able to fly a fighter from time to time within MSFS, especially with these clouds and that scenery. Also don't forget teams like the Blue Angels, these birds aren't solely used for combat...

Plus, when it comes to fighters, there's the sheer pleasure of flying ultra-high performance aircraft.  I've lost track of the number of fighter pilots who wrote in their memoirs or said in interviews that it would be wonderful just to fly the airplane without having to destroy other aircraft or worrying about your own imminent death.  In a civilian simulator, we get to do that.

Personally, I much prefer flying fighters and classic warbirds in civilian sims, just because I get to enjoy the speed, the procedures, still get to fly the aircrafts I admire and respect without being confined to a small square in a place that doesn't interest me.

I've also spent a lot of time flying fighters in FSX and P3D on reconnaissance missions.  In MSFS there'll be no shortage of things to observe - and maybe even photograph, if some add-on developer decides to get inventive.

Maybe VRS Tac Pack will be a partner? They have tankers and carriers, and combat in multiplayer mode.

Give me :

- A warbird with a huge torque, Mustang or Corsair. IFR equipped. Soon.

- A prop transport STOL aircraft à la C130 (Sarajevo Approach anybody ?). I wouldn't mind a A-400 either.

- The old T-6 Texan for cruising the new landscape with a large canopy (IFR equipped also please)

- and, but I repeat myself, a Lockheed U-2 to see how great the world looks when you are high enough not to see all the misery going on on the ground.

I don't see the need for fighters in MSFS, sorry.
If i want to fly fighters, i don't need to do it above my city, region, nation or even continent. What makes it rewarding is learning its capabilities and its systems. Systems which were designed to be used in a combat scenario, not for doing uneventful peace time patrols or nothing more than a scramble to intercept an airline having communication issues.

Yes, DCS scenery is a bit outdated at times (especially in comparison with MSFS, but do we really want to do a comparison on the scenery with MSFS vs anything developed before it? I don't think it woudn't be much fair or making much sense) but it's not the reason to try the simulator itself. The reason is having a credible war scenario (except for the dynamic campaign, which is being worked on) with licensed and realistic (as far as they can be done of course) military aircrafts with advanced weapons, tactics and avionics.

Military transport planes, now that is something that would be more than welcome in MSFS. But fighters, with the risk of them being overly simplified and boring? Not so much.

Also no, MSFS woudn't kill DCS at all. This is not a P3D vs MSFS situation (in which we know MSFS will most likely be superior in all fields), there is more to a combat simulator than pretty graphics.

I you haven't flown a higher performance fighter in e.g. the Swiss alps, you have been missing a lot.

Pulling into a 90deg climb at 500kts and watching the mountains rapidly drop below you is an absolutely great experience. IRL and in the sim.

Hoping for a B-52 with correctly simulated 8 engines, flaps, crosswind and wingtip protection gear 🙂

I have been lucky enough to fly in a double seat Eurofighter here in Italy but that is about it on the real side of things. And i did good not having breakfast on that day (still loved it of course, but i did good)

For anything else, mountains are mountains. And even tho the Alps are amazing for sure, the low flying part is not just for show but actually used extensively in DCS for avoiding radar detection. Turns out there are mountains too in DCS maps 🙂
