Meh.  Samsung 860 Evo 1TB is so cheap these days I'd just get 2 of those.

I would think that would add a significant amount of stutters (while loading) since the SATA ports are generally faster than USB. Is that USB 2.0 or 3.0? SATA runs at 6.0 gbps, USB 3.0 runs at 5 gbps, USB 2.0 runs at 480 mbps. Here is a good article about transfer speeds -- https://www.quora.com/How-long-will-it-take-to-transfer-a-1-GB-file-size-on-a-USB-2-0-and-a-USB-3-0-drive

That article points out that the USB speeds noted above are theoretical maximums and in real life are slower.

I agree with Ryan that you should be using SSDs if you have available internal ports. During Black Friday, saw a 2 Gb SSD for $229 at Newegg. 1 Gb SSDs are running between $80 and $110.

I use a WD Elements drive for storage of installation files and backups but not to execute from.

What are your PC's specs?

P.

Hope this helps.
