if only real life as that sharp, what with all the glare, haze, dust and dirt on the cockpit window, tinted windows then looking through sunglasses. 

But it makes screenshots look pretty I suppose. 🙂

It makes the ENTIRE world, look like you are now viewing it through a glass pane...for myself, this 'gimmick' to borrow your description (smile),  has brought my simulator visualizations to full focus.., like one having had cataracts, and now, past the operation to remove them, is seeing the world again,  smudge and blur free.  Colors pop out at you, objects in sharp focus in foreground, or distance,....for myself, hardly a gimmick....actually, the most amazing thing I have seen to drive a graphics card bytes and bits!

For me the most noticeable improvement has been in ground textures when viewed from the air, everything looks so well defined now.
