PMDG updates the 737 NGXu

Sorry if this question is out of place but would you people recommend this plane if I already own the original NGX?

Not really. Same exact thing with better graphics, an EFB and, pay again full price for most of what has been done before. Value for money is very very very low.

What price is more reasonable to you? Genuinely curious.

But if you plan on flying it in the upcoming MSFS there is nothing to lose. If not then there are definitely more cost effective ways to improve your sim.

Well, its still a 737....so don't expect some brand new airplane that's radically different than your current 737.

If you want updated graphics, sound, efb, flight Dynamics, better systems logic...then it's a good buy.

Just remember...it's still a 737. There's only so much they can do to update it.

Thanks for your opinions, all. Considering that the cost will be taken into consideration for the new sim, I took the plunge. What the heck, toys for grownups.

Not the "same exact thing" at all.  Probably the most oft-criticized aspect of the NGX, the 3D model geometry in the VC, has been completely redone, with much better scaling of the cockpit, windows, etc.  PBR texturing.  An auto-time compression feature, similar to what's in the 777/747 has been added.  Full variable dynamic lighting in the flight deck.  Winds aloft forecasts can now be imported into the FMS.  There's a self-drive pushback mode that allows you to be the tug driver to get out of tight/odd parking locations.  The -900ER is modelled, with the appropriate aux tanks and associated controls.  Automatic HGS eyepoint adjustments.  etc etc etc

It's still a 737...but no, this is not the exact same thing with better graphics and an EFB.

I agree, its quite a large improvement over the old NGX, the cockpit geometry alone being worth the upgrade.  The systems behind the scenes, flight dynamics, and of course the visuals have been completely redone.  So yes its a 737, but its rebuilt from the ground up to modern standards.  I dont think its as groundbreaking of a release as the original ngx was at its time, there are some features it doesn't have that I feel it should have had but as a 737 lover its worth every penny.

Agree on both. Find it a real Upgrade plus the added bonus of it will be useable,if I join the headlong charge towards a sim that has yet to see daylight🤣

It’s a great improvement over what was already a great aircraft in it’s own right.

Yeah i know a lot of people will buy anything PMDG throws at them, but still, it's not worth an ADDITIONAL 100 bucks. Not all agree, but hey, opinions right?

And the upcoming MSFS will be an additional cost for yet the same aircraft just in a different platform, but then again who can blame them, they exist for profit or we would have a 767 or 757 or even an MD-11 which a lot of people have been requesting for ages.

It's not a bad addon in any sense, it's probably one of the finest P3D addons even if it still has unresolved issues (739ER fuel tanks to name one), just way too expensive given its history. I bought it once (for FSX) and that's it.

What's about performance (FPS) with the last update ? Is it better ?  I am looking for about the same performance as the 747v2 before purchasing it.

It's entirely worth the 100 bucks. It's a completely new addon and not an update so just as much resources (manpower, salaries, time, ...) went into this one as into all of their products. If you feel it's not worth the money to you, personally, fair enough, but the discussion about the pricing is a bit of a moot point because there's really nothing wrong with it. Discounts are one thing when it comes to (large) updates or port-overs into other sims, but in this case the sole argument that it's the same aircraft type being simulated as in the NGX I think isn't enough to expect any kind of discount.

As for MSFS, what do you expect? Development is likely very different and you need a whole lot of work and resources again to bring it to the new sim so additional cost here is justified as well.

This is what I make of it from an entirely objective and unbiased point of view.

Thanks for the update!

Unfortunately, I consistently get an integrity check failure on one file (SimObjects\Misc\PMDG_Services_Cabin_NGXu\model.CabinTruckNGXu\PMDG_Services_Cabin_Truck_NGXu.mdl) and this aborts the update every time. I did try to delete the files under AppData\Roaming\PMDG\PMDG Operations Center\Updater\PMDG 737-800 a few times to force a new download, but it always fails at the same spot. Could it be a bad file on the server side? I don't have any anti-virus running while doing the update.

Any ideas?

I think you're better off posting this on the PMDG forums or filing a support ticket.
